I am presently working on a diorama of Rorke's Drift using both Britain's and Thomas Gunn 1/30th scale miniatures. The Thomas Gunn figures are really terrific and very accurate in their detail. However, I recently received a 2 figure set of 24th Foot soldiers (SFA002) both of whom are rushing forward carrying rifles. As most people with an interest in military history know, the British defenders at Rorke's Drift used Martini Henry rifles. I was therefore very surprised and disappointed to see that both figures are carrying what seem to be some sort of muzzle-loading rifles. Has anyone else come across this sort of thing with Thomas Gunn miniatures?

Methinks you may be right. They are maybe a few years old and it looks like an error which probably would not happen now. You could file them down a bit, remodel and repaint.

That might be the reason. But certainly poor quality control. I am now 75 years old and my hands shake like jelly and my eyes are also fading, so can't do any modelling work at all now. I suppose I am just being a little picky over this.

Yes your right , this was/is a very old set from the beginning of the series , I also recall a problem with the foreign service hat shape being wrong on one of the SFA 001A Figures it looks like a much later period hat . but from 002B on things improved rapidly

what I did was to remove the hand of the SFA 002 Running with the musket , replacing it with an old Hinchcliffe hand holding the correct Martini Henry and agin for the second figure in the set this was several years ago

Have just received the following reply from TG figures to my query about this: "I believe SFA 002 were one of our first batch of redcoats, yes the rifle is the wrong type although the Zulus did have muskets so they could have pinched them off a couple of dead Zulus? I believe SFA002 was produced some 8 years back and is quite a rare piece for you to have come across. A bit cheeky I think.

I think it's nice that TGM took time to answer, esp. considering it's an old set.

Personally, I think they do a great job in trying to create accurate pieces.

Agree 100%. Very rare to get replies from businesses these days. And I also agree that GTM figures are very accurate and detailed.
