This is another group that doesn't garner much attention. They were first produced in 2008 and the sculpting is excellent. FL only produced four different Jaegers, plus Marshall Murat.

Wurttemberg was part of Napoleon's Confederation of the Rhine.

In looking at my list, it looks like FL produced about seven or eight of these, not four (I don't have them all).

You were correct the first time, it was 4 x Wurttemburg Jaegers plus Murat. Additionally, later, we also produced Wurttemberg Line Infantry, but those were an entirely separate release.

Best,

Matt

Thanks. I need to correct my lists. According to Bill Sager's site, the others are Westphalian Jaegers. Is that correct?

The Wurttemberg and Westphalians were heavily involved at Borodino on the Russian far left flank around the fletches if I am not mistaken, with Murat atop his horse in his flamboyant garb leading the way.......................these are highly underrated figures from First Legion.....................IMO...............

I agree. These are terrific figures. As good as some of today's FL figures are, these are exceptional.

The Jäger were great, but because of the limited sculpts, I only have a handful. And for some reason, the line infantry sold out so quickly, I wish I had gotten more.

Agreed - I think they are excellent too. I got a few each of the Wurtt and Westp Jaegers way back when and still have them. Never tried to get the Line Infantry. Ah the good old days when the figures were $39.95 or $44.95, the $CAN was at par and there was no sales tax. I can only imagine what they would cost me today at $69.95, the $CAN at $0.75 US and the sales tax at 13%..

First Legion still has several older figures in stock at good prices. If you're not interested in building a large army and you just want get a few figures, this could be the way to go.

You forgot to mention him urging his " brave Germans" on with in his bad german telling them to sh#t instead of shoot {eek3}. They undestood what he ment and poured out the fire :wink2:.

Great figures for when they were released but IMO they are nowhere near the quality that First Legion are turning out today. I would love to see them return to the earlier combatant releases with new figures and sets. The coverage of lesser covered units is what made got me hooked.

I agree, Gebhard.

I would buy a repaint of the Line Infantry. They passed by too quickly.

I've been harping on this for years.

As a TRUE Napoleonics collector, I've got French, British, Russian, Prussian and Austrian figures in my 20mm collection.

However, I also have Dutch, Belgian, Nassau, Hanovarian, Spanish, Portuguese, Bavarian, Wurttemburg, Polish, Westphalian, Baden and Hesse Darmstadt figures too, close to 10,000 figures (yes fellas, I've got a problem...............:wink2:...................).

I love any and all Napoleonics.

The problem with Napoleonic toy soldiers is the main focus has been French and British, ie, Waterloo, Waterloo, couldn't escape if I wanted to................(sorry, that ABBA song kicked in)...............

First Legion has addressed this with a wider variety of figures, K & C has done Russians in the past, JJD has done Portuguese, Kronprinz has dabbled with other nationalities, Britains has done Nassau troops and Brunswickers.

As a matter of fact, I get calls all the time on the Britains Nassau troops that are now out of production. I am hoping that Britains will do Dutch/Belgians, more Nassau troops and Hanovarians to expand on their Napoleonics range.

I guess the main issue is the concern the lesser known nationalities (ie, anything other than British and French) won't sell, then the manufacturers have invested time and money into a failed venture.

All I know is I sold raftloads of Kronprinz Prussian militia, Austrians in crested helmets and had a long list of preorders in on the Austerlitz Italians until the plug got pulled on my distributorship.

Look at Cold Steel; he's done some wonderful Peninsular war themed British and French, yet sales are a bit slow. Collectors who ask for such things need to put their money where their mouths are, not say "Oh gee, those Empress Dragoons are beautiful, but I'm waiting for Cuirassiers/Hussars/line lancers/whatever so as to not have to actually buy the dragoons"..............

Same with JJD; he did a nice range of Peninsular War figures, namely Portuguese and the sales have not exactly set the world on fire; where else are you going to get them if you are a Peninsular war enthusiast?

Hopefully First Legion will continue to expand their Napoleonic offerings as they have the largest current catalog of Napoleonics.

Maybe Matt can address the issue of lesser represented nationalities.

Here is Marshall Murat. He came with a removable cape but I prefer him with it. Gives him a certain majesty.

Excellent photo! I've only been able to obtain a few of these but I prefer the Jaegers.

There really isn't much to address as First Legion has led the way since our inception in broadening the market in terms of the availability of things other than French and British. Before we came on the scene, very little was being done for (as George puts it) the "true Napoleonic collector." In our 9 years, we've covered....

Westphalian Garde Jaegers
Westphalian Jaegers Carabineirs
Wurttemburg Jaegers
Wurttemburg Line Infantry
Nassau
Brunswick
Grand Duchy of Warsaw
Russians (in great numbers)
Austrians
Prussians
Bavarian Line and Jaegers
Saxons

And, of course, tons of Great British and French. While our catalog as it relates to Napoleonic figures is not nearly complete, it's the most complete catalog out there. And we will continue to release both major and minor states moving forward as we expand our flagship series. We have already previewed the Prussian Artillery and additional Prussians are in the works along with additional Russians for 2017. We will probably also revisit the Confederation of the Rhine or other nationalities for which we have to produce anything in the not too distant future as well.

Best,

Matt

They are on my wishlist since i discovered FL. They are inspired from a famous watercolour by Christian Wilhelm Von Faber du Faur (if i recall but maybe i'm confusing him with Albrecht Adam) portraying Murat seeking refuge between the Wurttemberg Jaegers. I remember particularly the wounded officer and the pointing NCO apart from the shooting figures. I'm pretty sure it's Faber du Faur book, i have both his and Adam's so i tend to confuse them a bit (being attached to the same corps and portraying nearly the same scenes). Faber du Faur by the way portrays the retreat too and his plates are really striking (Adams stop painting with Napoleon in Moscow)...

You are absolutely right. I had never noticed that before.

The Murat image from the Osprey Borodino book is superb IMO............

You've certainly provided a very wide range of Napoleonic figures, Matt.
I was particularly pleased to see the RHA Rocket Trop this year.
How about the Netherlands Jaegers in the Waterloo Campaign?
