Need Help!
Recently received a gift of a U.S. Navy telescope that someone bought at an auction in Cape Cod.I cannot find anything out about this telescope and i was hoping someone could help.
The telescope is 22 inches in length.it weighs about 6 0r 7 pounds.it is painted in "Army Green" colors with black ends.
The markings on the scope are as follows:
Telescope M70 D
H.M.R.
1944
W.E.M. Co.
various numbers
"this instrument has coated optics"
Appreciate any help any one can give me on this scope.
Harvey

Can you post a picture? That might help the guys identify it.

Prost!

Many thanks,
will have to wait for my son to post picture.Have tracked telescope to be an Army telescope used for sighting in both SHERMAN tanks and GREYHOUND Armoured Cars.Found info on a discussion group of military telescopes.
M70D was used in conjunction with a periscope sight to align fire on enemy resouces. But,since both the British and the U.S. used Shermans in 19444 does anyone know whether the engraving "H.M.R.'' denotes a British use rather than an American.?
Many thanks
Harvey
