There is a fascinating bunch of images on the web from the archives of LIFE magazine. Some have been seen, but others are new. Quite a few are in original color. Some need color corrections, but the stuff is gold!

Here are some examples;

Thank you for these gems. At Syracuse University, I worked on the Margaret Bourke-White collection of WWII photos taken for Life and there certainly are lots of great images out there including pictures that never got published partly due to government censorship during the war. MBW photographed US Army nurses under fire in a combat zone and the government conveniently "lost" those photos since nurses were officially not "allowed" to be in that situation. Bourke-White was :mad: big time about that!

In case you don't recognize - it's the mighty German Tiger I - probably destroyed by its crew to prevent capture. That's one BUSTED tank! Tunisia, 1943.

Wow, thanks for bringing these to the forum, Gary! They're excellent looks into the everyday of the war, and they are great references, too. Notice the factory numbers cast into the side of the Sherman's turret and hull, for example? I never saw that before. Great shots of the shoddy wool the Germans had to use by 1943-44 in their uniforms, too, inferior quality to the wool-rayon material of pre-war and early years.

Thanks again for posting, prost!

A few more,

Here's a German Marder III H wrecked in Italy, 5-44. On a tank modeler board it was mentioned that the intricate camo pattern was from the German 71st Infantrie Division. Note the variety of uniform details on the GIs

A US medical unit advances towards Rome, Italy, 5-44.

Some kind of camp, maybe a headquarters? There are two M8 armored cars in the photo, plus jeeps, tents, command cars, etc.
