Reading those letters just drives me crazy. WWI was murder, pure and simple, perpetrated by the idiots governing europe on their poor citizens. There was no right or wrong side to this war, and the millions who died did so in vain, as this "war to end all wars" led directly to the rise of Hitler and the disastrous Second World War. I would have loved to have sent all the politicians and generals involved in this horror show from Germany, France and England across no mans land into the teeth of each others machine guns. I can think of no more fitting fate for these butchers.

OUCH!! Scathing but difficult to disagree with, impossible even.

There are some neat antique shops all around Pa and I have found several WW1 era postcards sitting in these shops, most of them written by German troops (we have a strong German/Dutch presence here). I buy them when I can and take them home and read them. The last thing I want to see is them go into the waste basket.

Yes- definately!! I missed that in my post- perhaps I will find something from my Great Grandfather!! of course, it will all be in Italian as he was only a year or so off the boat from Calabrea

When they say the war to end all the wars, they meant that the old style war is finished, now we will start a new modern type of war, where aviation made a huge different and will implicates civilians and the new racing of weaponry of mass destruction.

That was all about this WAR TO END THE WARS.
