I don't want to start a wishing list and it is not an order 'à la Mr. John Gamble' but only a simple question to Mr. Neilson. Is there any chance that we have, one day, in a serie like Fields of Battle, WWI figures or their market possibilities are too low for that?

Pierre.

Pierre,

I asked Andy this question at last year's Symposium (in fact it might have been the first time I ever talked to him) and he said it's not a question of making a few sets but doing a whole a range a la World War II, Napoleonics, etc. and that means devoting time and resources to building the range. Anyway, he said no, that wasn't something he planned on doing. I think it would be great if he changed his mind, though.

Thanks Brad,

I always appreciate your kindness to share your infos with the other members of the forum. BTW, the discussion about Montgomery and the others Allied generals in the AK sets thread was quite interesting.

Mes plus sincères salutations,
Pierre.

There seems to be a perceived lack of interest in WWI - at least by those who produce toy soldiers - that I think is misplaced. I have collected a couple of the Russian made WWI figures from aeroart, but they are extremely limited. The few that have been made available are in high demand.

There is no lack of interest on my part! Since it does not seem that K & C is going to go that route anytime soon, you might want to consider taking a look at campany called Hiriart. They are superior quality, traditional style 54mm, glossy figures. I just purchased more than 30 sets at the end of last year. The World War I sets included: Italian Alpini, Italian Inf. in Adrian helmets, French Chasseur de Alpins, German Alpen Korps with skis (Rommel's old WWI unit), 1914 French Inf. in red & blue uniforms with kepis, 1916 French Inf. in horizon blue uniforms with Adrian helmets, French Fusilier Marins, Anzacs at Gallipoli, Turkish Inf., 1914 German Inf., and Austrian Rifles.

The sets come 9 figures to the box and sell for $110. There is an Italian website I found on Google that has a catalog and photos of many sets.
They also have mountain artillery sets with 5 figures and 4 mules for the Italians, French, and Austrians. In addition, they have horse drawn gun teams in several nationalities.

Mike-
You must have cornered the WWI market with 30 sets! Hope you have a place to display them. I always thought it would be interesting to have a nice set of the WWII leaders as they appeared in WWI. Most of them participated in some fashion. But I guess I will have to be content with Tigers, Panthers, repainted Tigers, Panthers etc. How many Tigers did that guy Wittman have? I am surprised we won the war.

Boy, I sure hope I didn't corner the market. You are right, I don't have room to display them. That is why I sell every year at the West Coaster. I am about to remove from my displays and box up for sale all my Fusiler, Gerry Ford Elite Forces, Americans in Minature, and Bastion WW I sets (not my Bastion Boxer Rebellion sets). I got a lot of pleasure from those sets over the years, so will their new owners. The money I get from their sale will help cover my recent purchases.

By the way, I am going to take my new Hiriart sets to the show to see if I can take any orders for them. But these are for my collection and I am not selling them.

Guys, don't forget Toy Army Workshop and Tommy Atkins, not to mention Trophy. They all make extensive World War I glossy ranges, including a large quantity of metal vehicles and artillery pieces. I have quite a bit of WWI stuff from these makers, and it is quite nice.

Just for the record, K&C made about a dozen WWI aircraft and one set of four WWI Flying aces, 2 allied (Mannock, McCudden) and two german (Von Rictoven, Immelman).

Dear Louis

I admired the toy arrmy workshop figures at the London shows and if I ever started collecting would start with them - the artillery in particular was superb.

Dear Mike,
Were you selling some older K&C sets at the last West Coaster?
Steven

I have about 20 Atlas WW1 French soldiers. It is a company in France that produces a set of 50 WW1 French,54mm, in their various styles of uniforms. They are a matte finish, not K&C quality, who is, but not too bad.

Dear Steven,

Yes I was. We actually know each other and, in fact, you bought an early glossy K & C ACW set from me at the 2004 West Coaster.
