I'm thinking of putting together a WWI dio. I love the (relatively) new 1918 British figures, especially the tank. But I also prefer the 1914 German figures to the 1918 stormtroopers. Those helmets always seem emblematic of The Great War for me.

I'm not a stickler for historical accuracy, but I was wondering if there were any battles where brits/tanks might have gone up against the Germans in their old uniforms and helmets.

Thanks,

Mark

British Tanks first went into action around Flers during the Battle of the Somme during in July/August 1916.I think by then the old pickelhaube helmet was gone, replaced by the Coal scuttle Helmet. But If you enjoy mixing your figures then why not,its what you enjoy thats important.

Hi Mark. The Germans first issued the steel helmet in small numbers to troops at Verdun, in Feb. 1916. The helmets reduced head wounds so successfully that steel helmets replaced the picklehaulbe within a few months on the Western front. By the time of the Somme the steel helmet would have been in universal service. That said, it was not until mid 1917 that the steel helmet issue was complete on the Eastern front. Who's to say a few rear echelon or transferred troops might not have still had the earlier picklehaube by the Somme? As posted, it is your dio, go for it. -- lancer

thanks guys...I appreciate the info. My wallet might not appreciate me adding a new range (although I already collect Britains in WWI).

K&C, as always, does a spectacular job on WWI

The fact is I tried to avoid collecting WWI and failed miserably. Andrew at Sierra loves to give me tons of grief about it. Epic failure on my part, but the line is too good not to collect.

Its non my fault that you always said "I will not collect WW1 I am not interested in it." then one look at Gordon's K&C WW1 trench Diorama and you lost complete control and dove into the trenches. :D:D:D:D

Amen to that.

I was hooked the minute I saw the K&C WWI diorama at the Westcoaster last year. I tried to resist................................

There's a lot to be said about WWI, a period of great transformations, from the 19th Century style tactics and uniforms to the 20th century ones, with millions caught and killed in over the top war. But also a period that caused great social and political changes and that ultimately contained all of the seeds for WWII. I believe K&C's representation is simply spectacular and I intend to collect whatever sets I can.

I have all the Late war brits and germans coming. I am only going to stick to later war WW1 and not get into the early war figures. I like the early war figures but just cant afford all of it rite now.
