Hi All,
Although I have sculpted many WWI & WWII figures & buildings for various companies over the years (Corgi, Conte, Old Northwest, W.Britain, Valiant and of course, Hudson & Allen Studio), I think some additional feedback could be useful. I have listed a few areas that could be considered for further development for scenics, figures & vehicles for both of these Twentieth Century conflicts. Please take a moment to vote for your top three favorites and let us know why or feel free to make additional suggestions.
It will be interesting to see where this goes...

Thanks,
Ken

Please pick your top three favorites
World War I Vehicles and crews
World War I Artillery and crews
World War 1 Early war
World War 1 Mid to late war
World War II Vehicles and crews
World War II Artillery and crews
Blitzkrieg in the West 1939-40
Normandy campaign summer 1944
Ardennes offensive
Push to Germany 1944-45
North African campaign
Italian campaign
Russian front 1941-45

You want us to pick only three?

My first question, well second if anyone's actually counting, is how many extra arms and hands do plan on adding to your body in order to cover all of these great subjects?

:)

I am all for Great War Artillery with crews and Vehicles with crews, these are items that sorely lacking in Matte within our hobby.
Wayne.

I would like to see some more WWI Tanks and Armored cars along with some of the people that helped develop them.

Although I am more of a WWII fan, I agree that some WWI armor and the personalities who developed its use in combat would be a welcome subject. A US Renault tank with a young George S. Patton figure would make for an interesting set.

The Patton figure might have to be titled “US Tank Officer” But his likeness could be included in the sculpt.

If the decision is made to go down the WWI path, it would be exciting to see a French 75 with US crew and a Harry Truman figure providing direction.

Some sort of homage to the “Lost Battalion” is IMO long overdue.

So far a few numbers are a bit surprising, but overall consistent with other Polls I have participated in for various manufacturers. The second part of this question is obvious, but I still would like to ask to keep the participation high.

My experience over the past twenty years has been that WWII German subject matter out performs Allied items in terms of sales at a 4 to 1 ratio.

WWI seems to be much more balanced with Western Front German, British, French and even U.S. selling equally strong, although I have to admit that post 1916 Germans can be a bit stronger here too.

What are your collecting trends and do they reflect the general overview as stated above?

IMO these ratios favoring the Germans (of both conflicts) are representative of the fact that it was Germany who was the common enemy. So, it doesn’t matter if a collector is more focused on British-Commonwealth, French, Russian or American, they all are going to need some German figures and vehicles to square off against.

Likewise, any serious coverage of the Napoleonic Wars would have to include a respectable contingent of French subjects in order for the collector’s favorite allied army to have targets…oops …I mean a worthy adversary.

:)

Of course I tend to prefer French, but I think the general trend is British=German>French>Americans=Turkish>Others

I only collect WW1 now. Mainly Allied (British, Dominions but not US) although I would collect Turks too if a certain campaign were to be done!

Well I am hooked on the Conte church/priory, French destroyed house and barn, so something along the same style would be great, maybe Ken could finish off the rear of the church properly. cheers, Robin.

Definitely World War I vehicles/artillery and crews ..... IN GLOSS! :wink2:

I would love to do some more French in Horizon Blue. This is one of two I finished when I still had a relationship with ONWTC. I still have three or four unfinished ones somewhere around here and would like to add to my own collection.

I am currently trying to decided which mini-collection I should keep: WWI or Sudan. The Sudan stuff is so colorful, but the WWI stuff is so vivid. If I keep WWI, I will buy the rest of the Britains stuff and some ONWTC, and if I keep Sudan, I will buy the Britains and Jenkins naval pieces. WWI is more expensive, but my Sudan stuff is more valuable. Ken-you're not making this an easy decision{sm4}!

Also, is that a new WWI trench piece I see, or something you did for yourself?

I voted only for North Africa and would be interested in scenics. However, a desert background could also be used for Lawrence of Arabia and WW I in the mid East.

It is a fairly new piece, I have been so busy with the W. Britain catalog we haven't really posted it yet. They come as pictured below and are designed to be used as a display for twentieth century conflicts.
Here is an overhead view...

With a figure for reference...

These are sold for $35.00 ea. and can be used with our Barbed Wire.

Looks like a great display piece for WWI. Can you provide some more info on the dimensions?

:)
