Today is the 70th anniversary of the German invasion of Poland on Sept. 1, 1939.

Also, tommorrow, Sept 2nd, markes the 64th anniversary of the official end of the whole thing.

And today and tomorrow mark another significant event in German, and European history-the 139th anniversary of the Battle of Sedan. It could be said that there is road that leads from one anniversary to the other, though it's not necessarily a straight line, that is, Sedan did not mean that Poland had to happen. But without the unification of Germany under Prussian leadership, the second does not happen. It's an interesting counterfactual to debate.
