Does anybody have any suggestions on Iwo Jima like dioramas? They seem to be kind of scarce. I've seen the K&C mountain, but what I'd really like to find is a beach for the K&C marines to come ashore... Same goes for WWII N. Africa. Is there any desert sand around? Palms I've seen plenty of. I do not paint or glue, which doesn't make things easier.
Back to Normandy, I think we badly need something like a painted Normandy Village. Beaches and bunkers I've seen plenty of, the best beaches coming from JG Miniatures.
After all, toy soldiers on some real looking terrain are something else. or aren't they?

Paulo

I want to build a Iwo Jima diorama too. I used regular sand but I need something pre-made because I get sand all over stuff. This is a little piece of my diorama. http://images5.fotopic.net/?iid=y7rvdc&outx=699&quality=70

Hi Alexdakar,
I have found something that might interest you. Go to www.mmtoysoldiers.com, click on painted figures and collectables, then on prepainted inventory and scroll down to terrain pieces... There's a Tarawa Sea Wall waiting for you, which being part of the Pacific Campaign I think will do the trick for Iwo Jima. It even has the dark sand of the Iwo Jima beach.
Do you like it?
Regards,
Paulo

That's George Guerrero's site and George is a great guy. I recently purchased one of his dioramas and they've very good. He's told me that he's making dioramas for the Berlin sets, if that interests you. If anybody cares to contact him, his email is gguerriero@msn.com

George is cool. I was able to complete a good portion of retired sets because of him.

Hello all....I am a avid K&C collector and I also build my own dioramas. I do sell a few as well. I built for Iwo Jima...you have to use black sand. You can find the product on the Woodland Scenics website. Feel free to contact me for more info! I have pictures I could send you if you wanted to see what I have built. Files were too big to post on here. :)

If making a diorama of Iwo Jima don't include palm trees. Black volcanic sand and rocks are the whole Island. It is sub-tropical not like Tarawa which is close to the equator. Model railroad ballast would be close to actual sand. There were no log bunkers on Iwo. I was on the island in the 1960's when 3rd Marine Div. stoped there. They were still salvaging material there and are still finding underground caves. It is now under Japanese control. Leadmen-- The beaches were deep fast running currents that were rough on landing craft.

Guys,
I found a great product to make sand. At home depot, they have spray cans of textured paint to represent a stone finish and it dries like sand. The color is perfect for sand as well. I made a nice display board using it. To make water, I'd suggest water putty, which you can also get at home depot; it comes in a can and you mix it with water until it looks like oatmeal, then spread it on the surface and let it dry. Paint it a couple of shades of blue and finish with white and you've got instand water..........

I tried that textured spray paint and it works great!
