WWII U.S. M5 3 inch anti-tank gun.
Here are a few photos of another recent release in our WWII Collection, the U.S. M5 3 inch towed anti-tank gun. We decided to offer it with two different crews to represent different weather conditions in the ETO and designed an add on set with two figures that can be used with either set. As with our other WWII releases these guns feature C-N-C turned aluminum barrels to insure that this detail is truly round and will never droop. The shells are C-N-C turned brass and can be placed in the transport cases. Although the gun was effective it was difficult to maneuver on soft ground and the crews could easily flanked by the supporting infantry accompanying enemy tanks, resulting in high casualties in the crews. By the wars end these guns were almost entirely replaced by fully tracked gun motor carriages. Here in the Midwest many of these guns are still on display as monuments and we were able to examine several examples for details and measurements. It is also worthy to note that the M5 is still used as a ceremonial salute gun by the U.S. Army.
