I had a blast over the weekend, dabbling in all sorts of modelling. For model figures, I managed to take a few pics of this old, old figure which I had made many years ago. Given its age, I have decided to refurbish it, making minor changes and then repainting the whole piece.

I decided to do a little more with Xerxes I, changing the pose a little and thickening up his beard. More cloth was sculpted on to pad out the figure.

Since I am on this hair binge, I decided to give Xerxes a fright wig.

Based upon a plausible reconstruction on how the robe was worn, I sculpted more drapery to the figure. After cleaning the piece, I have painted it a basic red for repainting.

Sceptre added. Robe painted red. I carved away the trousers to sculpt the shoes. I will resculpt the trousers later.

Looking good!
This reminds me of another figure, one which I think you are particularly well-suited to sculpt: have you ever thought of making a Kohen Gadol (high priest of the Jewish Temple)?

Thanks for that great looking pic. I have a couple of high priests in flats (Hello JB...:)) that may benefit in painting from that ref.

From a sculpting point of view, it looks like a straightforward sculpt - a standing figure with arms laid out by the side (thus no interference with the robe), straight hanging folds in the drapery. I made a very similarly posed figure in a Qing Dynasty robe many years ago.

Finalised the sculpting of the trousers on this figure and have started to paint him in oils. Surface defects were later removed.

Hi Markster,

At this stage, I would have to thank you for your very kind comments. I probably need all the encouragement given with this piece.
