I have just received my Xmas Special Castings from Replica Metal Soldiers & Models - and couldn't be more pleased with them.
The set is titled "Life in the Army - The Garrison Christmas Waits" [As I understand it, the old term "Waites ( modern spelling Waits) derives from an old practice of musicians (singers) patrolling cities and larger towns in Great Britain and marking the hours by playing or singing at certain times of the night.] Very restful!
This set comprises six Victorian Guardsmen, in Cape Order - along with an Officer who is conducting them - plus a Christmas tree. The guys are singing Xmas Carols to entertain the Garrison where they are stationed. One of the Guardsmen is clearly a non-singer, as he is there to hold a lantern for the others to better see their music.
I understand from Andrew (proprietor) that this set was originally made by Roy Dilley - as a Xmas present for his son, but due to demand from friends - it was later released in a limited run for purchase. If you like what you see - and want a set too - better get in quickly - as this is a limited run once again, and will be withdrawn after Xmas Eve.
As you may be able to see from the pic attached - there is a tiny amount of construction involved with these castings - as the visible hands hold baton ( for the conductor), carol booklets for the singer and a lantern for illumination. Just a matter of plugging these in with a spot of glue to retain them. In accordance with my usual practice - I will paint the bodies first before doing this.
Keep watching - and I'll show you how I get on, from time to time. Shouldn't be too long - as these are destined to go under our own Xmas tree, so will be jumping the queue of stuff I have in hand, a bit! jb
