Hello all. I'm new both to the forum and to collecting as well. I've so far found this site to be very welcoming, with knowledgable collectors as well as executives and sculptors from the manufacturers themselves. Still, I'm a bit intimidated so please forgive me if I'm asking dumb questions. I did my best to search the threads for an answer before posting.

I recently started with some Modern Forces of Valor and Figarti figures, and now I'm looking to move into the AWI.

W. Britains Yorktown line is where I've decided to start. And searching through these forums I've learned white a bit, especially when it comes to setting up the diorama.

However, one thing I haven't been able to find online, anywhere, is a complete listing of what constitutes the Yorktown line. I'm referring not to the diorama pieces, but the figures themselves. There's a bit of confusion, because some sites will list a figure or set of figures as being part of the Yorktown Line rather than the "general" American Revolution, and vice versa.

From what I've been able to piece together (and please, someone correct me if I'm wrong), on the American side the New York and Rhode Island units are Yorktown units. On the British side, the 17th Regiment of Foot and the 71st highlanders.

Where I get confused is with "generic' figures like the American Continental Firing Line, or the British 80th.

I was wondering if someone here could direct me to or provide me with a complete list of Yorktown AWI figures (regardless of whether they are retired or not).

It may be that it's just a difference in the way retailers catalog their stocks, but I'd like to be a) relatively historically accurate and b) avoid any figures from before the takeover 3 to 4 years ago. Even to my untrained eye there seems to be a vast difference in quality.

As a more general question, I'm curious how I can subscribe to the Britains catalog and join their collector's club.

Thanks in advance for you help,

Mark Sable

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately I cannot help you re: your Yorktown question.

If you use this link http://www.treefrogtreasures.com/BRitains/index.html anything from 2006 is the new britains and will help keep you inline with the figures being compatible.

The collectors club can be found here www.wbritain.com

Hope that helps a bit

Welcome to the forum Mark. The collectors club for Britain's figures is a bargain to get started and to be informed. I just renewed my club membership yesterday and have been a member for about four years.

The membership is $48.00 for the year for a standard membership. They also have a premium membership for $85.00 and a basic membership for $38.00 per year.I get the standard membership which you receive two discount coupons per year at Christmas and your birthday for $8.00 off on figures or products plus your choice of one free Collector club figure of five choices of matte or glossy figures. You can order extra club figures for about $26@. I ordered the free figure plus two extra figures which would be delivered in May. You would be charged for the new membership you choose now and not charged for the club figures till they are delivered. You can order anytime during the year if club figures are available. I found out they sell out rather quickly. I did notice no Rev War figures this year but the five figures are a Matt Black Watch 1815, Civil War matt confederate, Glossy Redcoat 1815 Sandurst cadet, glossy life guard and the last figure is a Zulu War 24th foot in matte.

You would also receive catalogs and updates and the nice magazine called the Standard which is issued quarterly. Here is the address and phone.

Welcome to the forum, Mark!

I can't help much about Britain's figures, but I can check my references tonight when I get home, and see if I can find the order of battle for the Continental, British and Royal French armies that were present at the siege.

Prosit!

Hi Mark,

Here is a list of the Yorktown Sets. Also do join the Collectors Club its a very useful club with a free figure and quarterly news in the form of Tha Standard. I highly recommend it.

You need the following sets to build the redoubt:

17757 x 3
17758 x 2
17838 x 3
17752 x 2

This will let you build the entire redoubt. I believe that some of these sets come with figures.

17763 Alexander Hamilton x 1
17759 3 piece set American Light Infantry
17963 British 17th Foot set #2 2 figure set x 1
17839 British 71st Highlander and RI Light Infantry hand to hand set
17846 British 17th Foot Defending 2 figure set
17845 American Continental Line Firing Set 3 figure set
17844 American Continental Line Flag Bearer
17836 British 71st Highlanders Defending 3 figure set
17837 British 71st Highlanders Officer and NCO 2 Figure Set
17764 British 17th Regiment of Foot
17960 American Continental Line Infantry firing set
17961 American Continental Line Infantry advancing set

The following are single figure sets

17842 British 17th Regiment of Foot
17840 American Continental Infantry
17802 American RI Light Infantry
17783 British 17th Regimental Drummer
17841 American Light Infantry Charging
17843 British 71st Highlander
17958 British 71th Highlander Port Arms

I think this is about all of the sets for Yorktown. I hope you can find them all as they will make a very nice display.

Again please consider joining the Collectors Club I think you will like it.

All the best

Dave

Hi There!
I sculpted all of these sets in this range to date and the list is correct as far as sets labeled for the Yorktown campaign.
What I should point out however, is that when Richard and I decided to add to the AWI range we purposely chose other units or uniforms that could be used to add on to the Yorktown series.
This is keeping with our philosophy that we should not abandon larger ranges if possible, and that collections should be built up over time.
The release of the 80th Foot is an example. The 80th also served at
Yorktown, and many of the figures, without the Colours, could also stand in for other yellow faced, single spaced button British units.
The same can be said for the Mid-Atlantic States Continental Line uniforms conforming to the 1779 regulations. Any of the blue coated, red faced Continentals can be used with this range.

There will be some small offerings throughout the upcoming year that will visit units not present at Yorktown as Clamshell figures, in addition to some that can be used to fill gaps.

Hope this helps!
Ken

Hi ..the 80th foot color bearer is really wonderful !!!I speak not only of the sculpting but of the balance obtained with the flag that is a heavy piece!Unfortunately i couldn't find the other color (The King's Colour) and the other members of the line (Officer and drummer, soldiers marching), but the flag bearer is an outstanding piece by itself too...i hope in the next batch of soldiers you add some other members of this regiment!Keep with your outstanding work Ken!!!

Here is my Redoubt setup maybe it will help you out. I have moved a few figures around here and there.

Wow, thanks everyone!

Both the list and the catalogs were helpful (I'd been looking for scans of the latter everywhere - very nice of treefrog to have them cached). And to Mr. Osen...your approach to building the line so that later units are still ones that served at Yorktown is very collector friendly. I'm very much looking forward to seeing your sculpts up close soon. They photograph well enough to start trying them without holding one in my hand.

I think I may start with the two redoubt pieces that include figures, and an "end" piece so I can have a smaller version of the dioroma with the option to build on to it later. I'll probably supplement that with the 17, 71, NY and RI figures...and if they work out think about adding the 80th. It will probably take some time for me to buy the figures, have them shipped and assemble them, but I'll try to post some pictures when I do.

And thanks for suggesting the collector's club, it seems like a great deal.

Some quick questions if anyone has a second. I was thinking of also buying some build-a-rama diorama bases/stands - some sand ones for my modern Figarti Iraq figures, and some green ones for the Yorktown redoubts.

So, first question is, would you recommend them, or is there a better alternative out there. I'm looking for something simple, where I don't have to do any cutting of wood or gluing.

Second is, I think they are about 10 X 10. If I configure a diorama like the one I described above (the two redoubt sections with figures - a corner and a straight section, I believe; then adding a corner without figures) -about how many of them would I need. I can probably answer it myself by doing some simple math, but I'm asking for those who might own the set and be able to picture it better.

Again, I really appreciate everyone's help. You're all great ambassadors for the hobby.

-Mark

Jagdpanther - you must have just posted as I was writing this. That's quite an impressive layout. I didn't realize how much hill there was between the wooden spikes and the trenches.
