I was on E-Bay admiring a Napoleonic K&C figure I've never seen before thinking it was a special release Andy put out and hardly anyone knew about and I was the only guy who was going to own it........so I placed my bid only to go to my cabinet after bidding to find out it was one of the first ones I bought which is a regular well known release......

Hi Wellington,

How long have you been collecting K&C now? Is it a long while?
For me it's coming up to a year now and i'm reaching real addiction levels. When i go past my local K&C stockist in the city i have to really fight myself not to buy anything.

My main pledge though is just to concentrate on recent WW2 european/ N Africa releases.

I love the Napoleonic stuff on display in my local store and at the K&C UK stalls but i refuse to get involved with it. I'd end up penniless in a gutter somewhere clutching a tiny figure.

Seriously the one good thing about this hobby is that if things ever do get hard you can get out pretty much intact with what you invested.

LOL.....TOO FUNNY, sadly I've only been collecting for a year, I think part of my excuse is I just world an all night 12 hour shift. I'm very happy with my collection I have every Napoleonic figure that has been made by K&C, whether it be collector clubs, special editions etc, I have many duplicates considering I have to make regiments fighting. My goal is to continue to collect EVERY NAPOLEONIC figure ever made by K&C. At the end of it all I hope to make some life long friends and leave my collections to my sons....:)

PS I'm so very glad there is no store near me or I would be lying in the gutter beside you trying to take your single figure.

Yeah if things get REALLY bad and we end up homeless and penniless we can stow away onboard a boat to Hong Kong, Find our way to the King and Country offices, go up to Andy and say "LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO US! HAVE YOU NO SHAME?" :)

Dear Wellington,
Warning!!! Do not get Louis' book on K&C. You will find that K&C made 54mm glossy Napoleonics and a Napoleonic Chess Set. The figures are almost impossible to find and I have never seen the chess set anywhere. With the current frenzy for old K&C stuff, all these old sets are probably very, very expensive too. Luckily, I got most of the 54mm Napoleonic figures on sale in Hong Kong.:D However, I have been searching for one particular Napoleonic figure for the last eight years.:( Of course, we all can dream.:)

Thanks for the info, I think I knew about the glossy figures. How do they compare with todays figures if the quality is less I don't think I'll be collecting them.
Is there a web site I can see some pictures?

Dear Wellington,
Bill Sager's site (www.toysoldiersusa.com) has scans of old K&C brochures which have some pictures of the Napoleonics. Start with year 1993 forward. Comparing the two are like apples and oranges and is very subjective. Louis has stated numerous times on this forum how he prefers the original glossy K&C figures, others have stated they only like the more realistic matt figures. I can say the old glossy Napoleonics have less fine detail and are painted in a different style.:)

Oh, and I know I am addicted when I have regular monthly shipments of 2 to 3 20x20x18 boxes from my dealer scheduled from now to August. I also know I am addicted when I spend more than two hours a day on this forum!:)

You are right the glossy are nicebut I prefer the new figures, maybe I would buy them if I got a deal on them, but then again it would take away from my funds for the new figures.

You know you're addicted when you are trying to obtain every figure, vehicle, aircraft and diorama piece ever made by King & Country. In response to Steven's comment, I prefer the glossy figures for some eras (particularly the Victorian stuff), because that's the way traditional toy soldiers were made. However, when it comes to sculpting and painting, the present production matt painted figures are clearly superior in quality. That being said, some of the old K&C glossy Napolenics are very close in quality to the sculpting of the matt Napoleonics. The Seventh Hussar, Highland Officer and marching Highlander come to mind as excellent early sculpting from around 1995. But, as Steven said, it is truly apples and oranges. Only a real adicted looney would have to have them all, just because they are K&C. By the way, Steven has the five I need, and I have the one he needs. I guess we better start a twelve step program, eh Steven?

You know you're addicted when your son thinks Shannon is someone you must be having an affair with :D

I'm proud to say that I've had very few boxes comes to the house or the office since October. Of course, with the British Sherman, the new KT, Honour Bound, Afrika Korps and then Eighth Army, that is going to change.

Some interesting new french pieces from the Russians to ponder including one of himself "foot on drum." Worth looking at even if the prices are in fantasy land.
