You see a sign that says "Retirement Sale" and your first thought is that somebody is selling toy soldiers at a discount

You over-hear your children talking in soft low voices, saying, "Dad really has gone to far this time. We need to have an intervention. All he does is eat, drink, and sleep toy soldiers. HE EVEN HAS SOME SLEEPING WITH HIM…have you seen those Egyptian women!!!!”

OR

You over-hear your USPS, UPS, FedEx, and Speedy delivery people talking about giving YOU a portion of their bonuses for the record number of deliveries that they have made this year.

OR

You break-out in a cold sweat and start to have body tremors when you hear that a new production series has been postponed due to a production problem.

Well you guys think of more; Brad, great idea for a thread.

..............Instead of having an electrician install lighting around my new pool for $1000. I made a deal with my wife, that I would do the job, which involves digging about 100' of trench by 18" deep, and doing all of the electrical work, if I could spend the money on soldiers..........

...you completely run out of space to hide from your wife and family all the toy soldiers you have purchased that you do not want them to know about!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Women do that with clothes all the time. Unfortunately we're oblivious to it but they know every single move we make. My ex-girlfriend could even tell which firends I was having a drink with by the tone of my voice. I'm single at the moment so it's easier to fill up this place, but I can see it becoming a problem when I have to invite someone to weave between the boxes just to get a seat.

You collect a dozen different periods in at least 2 different scales, 2 car garage is full of nothing but toys, have to stash your old room at Dads farm with excess troops + take over a shop for a casting machine and equipment . No end in sight in things you want to make, convert , collect and paint.

You have 3 different Roman Armies. One aint good enough.
You don't collect different 1/32 armor piece by piece. You have to have at least a Platoon of everything.A Company of Shermans {17 tanks}just doesn't quite do it for ya.

You are writing a d@mn book on toy soldiers and spending thousands of dollars to turn the entire 3rd floor of your house into a K&C museum . . .

We all mis-directing our new Toy Soldiers from our wifes. We all do it. The other day she was getting a little nit picking about the volume TS I have.
I went to her closet and started counting shoes, some she bought and has never worn. She just turned and walked away. Peace for month or so.
There will be more of these down the road. We must endure just goes with the hobby.

Sometimes it is amazing how devious I have become, thanks to reading Treefrog. I got three orders but when each order comes I tell my wife it is the same order I told her about last month. I have to change strategy without using same excuse too often.Screwed up by putting ebay stuff on shared bank account-- got busted. Have to open my own account now. You know you are addicted when you see an old guy (not far from that myself) walking down the street and wonder if he got a big collection to sell. Sometimes it works to ask people. I got a nice Britains collection from a lady once by asking. Gave her a fair price. When working you could get away with more then being retired, Should concentrate on what I have instead of looking for more. Now to find the Britains motorcycle rider for motorcycle I got at a show Sat. One thing leads to another. John

When you jump for joy because you won an ebay auction of that soldier set you've been wanting. Then you get it and place it in the display cabinet and notice you already have that set.

....I mentioned this on another post and no one picked up on it. Someone start a thread to tell us about the extent of your collections. I can't do it I don't have enough.....YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Then those of us with the wife problems can say "see look what he has" I'm not that bad. Just kidding...sort of...Alex

You Know You're Addicted When....your K&C collection value can buy a brand new car (I just did an inventory of all my collection and right now the purchase value stands at $22,000...that's K&C only. If you add my custom made C-47 Dakota, hand crafted tall ships, Exoto & Franklin Mint collections) it would total to $35K. I'm sure there's someone out there who have outspent me...is there? This is sheer madness! Help! I need therapy. But as one forum member often say..." I love this stuff!"

N-P, you mention Exoto, I think they have most incredibly detailed diecast made, love their 260-289 Cobra's and the GT40's and Daytona Coupes, my favorite is the 1-2-3 Ford GT40 MKII finish at the 1966 LeMans.:) But that's not toy soldiers so I better stop now before I get thrown out.

Yes, yes, I have all of those series The GT40 Mark II Le Man's 1-2-3 Winners afficionado set is my favorite) and some have been retired, but they don't go as much as K&C Retirees. They were my first addiction coz they are soooo detailed close to the real ones. Hope to sell these in e-bay to to satisfy my TS/KC addiction.

N-P, I've considered the idea of ebaying my Exoto collection too, but I think I would get a bad case of "seller's remorse" if I did, they're just too darn nice to sell. Selling Franklin and Danbury, I could live with that, but those wire wheels and weber carbs on the Cobras are too cool let go. Get in touch with me if you decide to sell (don't do it:eek: ), maybe you have something I "need". ;)

Guys, I know people, I'm not naming names, who spend $20-30 K a year on their toy soldier collections. I can think of at least 3 guys in that class. All I can say is once you hit $35,000, you better think about insuring your collection (its not expensive to add it to homeowners insurance, maybe an additional $100-200 per year) and if there were a fire . . .

I don't think I'm not in that group yet but I think my collection must be getting up into that value range. I try not to think about what I've spent.

That's why from day one, I keep a list.

I don't want to even think about what I have into my collections.

About all I spend $$$ on for fun though too. Although that 1/4 scale 12 pounder Napoleon 69 caliber smoothbore at the Powderhorn gun shop has my name written all over it.

Insuring is great advice.I have so much stuf in different scales , 5,000+ 25mm painted troops and terrain pcs, All the Conte playsets and other terrain items, another 1,000 each painted plastci and metal figures and maybe 60 afv's and guns..I guess I would have to inventory every thing, maybe video record as I went along.
