I am enjoying the K&C holy grail thread and wanted to open it up to all manufactures, figures etc.

So, what piece, of any kind, have you been after and just can't seem to find one to buy?

For me, it's been years and years to no avail. I am dying to find Aeroart's Catherine the Great's Carriage.

It's so much my holy grail, that I just tried to google a photo of it and didn't find one

To me, a holy grail item is something you have to have, something you can't do without. I've long ceased to have those kinds of wants or desires. That being said, there is piece I've wanted for awhile to complete my Trophy Wild West range and that was Rough Justice. I've managed to find it and am just waiting for delivery.

In terms of a quest for something that cannot be found, for me, it's those 54mm Seven Years War figures made in Poland in the 80s or 90s. I think the molds were once available to homecasters. I forget who mentioned having seen them, but I would love to get the castings, or the molds, and add the figures to my collection. The series included various cavalry figures. But I think it's a quest in vain.

Prost!

Mine is more about being out of my price range, and that is the Aeroart (or other high end Russian) depiction of the Robert the Bruce vs Henry de Bohun duel.

For me - these "Holy Grail" items change as time passes - and either you acquire them - or you don't. They never really go away - and I can remember several that I managed to acquire.

Britains Lancer Officer - turned in the saddle was my first such figure - which I ended up buying as a re-cast and painting.

The Trophy Hancocks Brewery Dray - which I ended up mostly scratch-building - to get my own version. Same with Pony Express and Bucking Bronco Riders from that marque.

Then there was Britains Set 72 - Diamond Jubilee Souvenir Set - so well out of my budget range, I made a set up from old second-hand items.

JoHillco's Fox with a Goose in mouth - which I found broken in a job-lot of e-bay items - and fixed up only last week!!

The list goes on......and on

Today - it's the top half of a Britains Heavy Howitzer - and A Horse and Chariot Driver from JoHillco's "Quo Vadis Set" ( circa 1951) - once again to complete bits I have already picked up.

Part of the fun for me, is in chasing them down - and never giving up - 'cos tomorrow - I may find them - or dream up some other way of getting what I most dearly want (for now).

Happy hunting for your heart's desire. jb

Mine is the Britains lead adult giraffe and the adult Indian elephant with rubber trunk.

Hi Brad,

If you are thinking of PZ figures from Cracow, you might consider talking to me.

Bob

Thanks for refreshing my memory, Bob! Yes, I see that it was your post in my "Army of Frederick the Great" thread:

Are they still available? I recall looking for them after reading you post back then, but not finding anything.

I should ask at Berliner Zinnfiguren, too.

Prost!

If it is this one you can see it in person at Jim Hillestad's and drool over it at least! Sorry this photo wasn't great and I can't remember if I took another or not...

Now I have remembered that I never finished captioning that Photo Album on Facebook!

That's the one!!!! :)
They made a six horse version as well - even more impressive

I would love to have a complete Britains 18" heavy howitzer set with the limber, riders and the twelve horses to pull it. I missed a couple on the U.K. eBay site before I ever thought to look there...

I remember seeing that out at our show, it was around 1999 or 2000. It was the most amazing piece of work from the Russians, that I had seen to that time. Just the carriage alone, is an amazing work of art, from the figures, to the panels.

Prost!

Hi Brad,

To the best of my knowledge and belief, they stopped production about 1999/2000. I have a few "in stock", if you would like further details, please PM me.

Some great setsmentioned here. I have a set I would love to get but at today's prices it's usually way out of my price range, that said the figures are from Heyde and are their Durbar set they did in the 30s. Have seen photos of them but never seen one in the flesh. Would love to get a set of Imperials 40 Figure Square in the Sudan but againprice becomes a bit of an issue. Maybe someday.

I guess if I had to pick one item it is when I collected K&C and dreamed about the old Winter 88 and gun crew, still love that set, hardly ever saw one for sale anywhere and if so it was a arm and a leg to buy it.

Hello. Do you think the KC 88 is better quality, more detailed than the CS one done in the same period?

Sammy, I read through the thread just now and it occurred to me that just about everything cited can actually be had if we're willing to cough up the $$$ for the item. Perhaps there should be something of a proviso added to the whole concept behind the topic, one related to our willingness to get scalped in pursuit of this treasure or that. I'm no different from the other posters in this regard, BTW. There are sets that I'd dearly love to have, but ones that I'll likely never acquire because I consider them cost prohibitive.

Holy Grail?

Hmm...

Is there anything that's out there in the way of toy soldiers that's simply unobtainable, regardless of the cost? In other words, a set that you'd be willing to pay for, but one that simply can't be had at any price, a museum piece perhaps?

Are you referring to WS 24 or WS 103. I believe either can be had at a price that is more reasonable than it used to be.

Depends which one you're referring to.

Didn't Figarti make one that was quite nice?
