Today is the 131st Anniversary of the opening engagement of the Anglo-Zulu War when a section of Chelmsford's column on its way to Isandlwana attacked Sihayo's kraal, situated in the Batshe valley, since it threatened the successful advancement of the British column. It was also a punitive attack since this was the source of one of the incidents that the British used to justify their invasion of Zululand.
The fighting was done by a combination of the Natal Native Contingent and the 24th Foot.
