I recently rescued a piece that had been sitting on my shelf of doom for quite a few years, and finished it up. threads that follow briefly document the adventure.
The kit is a 90mm metal kit by Andrea of Spain, produced ,my guess in the 1990s. Beautifully sculpted, and based on a painting by Paul Delaroche in 1840 , "Napoleon at Fontainebleau 1814"
It came in a number of pieces, requiring assembly and painting. It is a heavy piece of metal, and hand cramping was to be expected.

First came the casting clean up and preparation for priming. An absolute minimum of flash and a good going over with a brass brush set the stage for next steps. Some pieces like the table were pre assembled with super glue prior to prime, others like the head were individually primed and assembled later in the process

The piece was primed and painting began The floor came first as I was not sure just how i was going to attach the heavy body to it and the wooden base. Floor first undercoated in acrylics then a coat of artist oils applied. Locator holes drilled for the table, Napoleons boots and coat tails. Pins then installed but figures not permanently attached.
Head came next, blocked out in acrylics. Detailed much later with artist oils and was the last piece of assembly when all else was in place.
side note: Primed piece had a couple visitors from the shelf of doom looking for advice on how they may ever make it to the painting bench. YA..good luck I say

earlier this summer I looked up and there he was just sitting there waiting to be finished. And so he was. all that was really left was the detail paint with oils and some final assembly. Attach the name plate and COMPLETE was logged in my journal. hope you enjoyed the process GOOD GRIEF---I just noticed the left eye in the photo. thats a photo aberration , trust me it doesnt look anything like that in reality.

Walt,

Thanks for posting your journey. This turned out to be a fine masterpiece!! Excellent job. Will we see this one at the MFCA next year? Would love to see it in person.

he will debut at Long Island this Nov (2025), and possibly 2026 MFCA, depending on how many other pieces get completed by then

Nice work, Walt! I look forward to seeing this at Long Island in November!

Prost!
