I have started this thread so we can talk about King and Country's AWI new releases and future Napoleonic releases. Please stay with the subject of this thread - thanks.

I am very excited about the new releases coming out in April with the AWI German Hessians. I plan to jump right in and buy them right away - what about the rest of you guys??

Does anyone know if there were Hessian Artillery units in the AWI ?

On the Napoleonic front - I am looking forward to getting my hands on the Russians soon - any one else ordered theirs yet?

I simply cannot afford to get into the Battle of Borodino. The figures look cool but I am a Waterloo man at the end of the day. I suppose you will be bale to use all the existing French Napoleonics in a Borodino scene so that is cool. I do wonder what direction K and C will take with their next Napoleonic releases. I suspect your canon will be soon. I know that K and C watch what their opposition is up to and tend to match their offerings. So I expect it to be an answer to the First Legion artillery piece which looks very good.

I hope we get that Artillery soon ! I want it bad ;)

Hold on to hope that we will be getting some Prussians - I think that when Andy sees how well his Russians are selling - He will make the Prussians to round out the Waterloo part of the range.

I am also hoping for some Polish Lancers this year - they sold so well in the KCS release - I have to believe Andy can see these as a great addition to the Napoleonic Range.

Don't forget the Napoleonic limited edition! Some ideas mentioned here were Napoleon's carriage, British rockets, and Napoleon's meeting with the Tsar on the Nieman river. A scene from Napoleon's coronation might be interesting. My guess is that KC will do a non-WWII limited edition this year and the Napoleonic era is a good possibility.

If you look at other manufacturers there is a hierarchy of cavalry in terms of popularity. It seems the heavies ( Dragoons, Curasiers Carabineers) then lnacers ( toss up between Dutch (Red) or Polish (Blue) and the light cavalry ( Hussars Chasseurs).
I personally like the Dutch Lancers more but any would be cool.

Has there ever been a non WWII strictly limited edition

Well this is a special anniversary for King and Country being 25 years old.

So I would think what ever is the signature 25th anniversary figure - it will be very special ! ;)

The new Hessians and Napoleonic Russians are at the top of my 'what to buy next' list. I plan to list several of my WWII items on ebay over the weekend to help fund my purchases of these sets. My K&C budget is only $100/month (when I don't cheat). However, I may talk my wife into getting all the Russians for my birthday next month.

As much as I like the Hessians and Russian Naps, I am more excited about the new American Continental figures you announced. I assume that means Regulars, which is what I have been hoping for for some time. What I would really like is more variety in the shooting poses. Typically we just get one standing firing and one kneeling firing. Slight variations would be nice along with a couple different poses of loading.

Andy - Did a repaint of four of the Empress Dragoon - limited edition 350 - each had a dark green uniform - instead of the light green that was made for the figures that were in the general release.

Figures in the set: 78 (S) Flagman

79 (S) Charging

80 (S) w/ Pistol

81 (S) w/ Sword

By all accounts it wasnt a big seller - due to the fact there were only four of them and they werent figure poses that you buy several of to produce a calvary charge. Also collectors were sour on them because they were repaints of what was already out there in the general release.

This might been the reason for not having a Napoleonic Limited Edition set for so long - due to those poor sales on the Dragoons. But, I feel if you make a true limited edition - original sculpture set - it will sell greatly !

I have the set - because - well you all know why  But, it has been a long time coming for Napoleonics to take the forefront ! Charge !!

It would be nice to see some more "Green Jackets" on the field.
Perhaps the 95th Rifles? And of course ye can nae ha ta many Hie"landers!!!
O.C.

It depends how you use the term "strictly limited". He has only called a few things strictly limited and they have all been World War II. However, he has made other sets in limited numbers such as the Christmas sets and Joan of Arc.

I am definitely getting the Russians. They look great. I have placed them on my "Wish List" my wife keeps on her laptop. I expect her to get them for me with Father's Day, our anniversary, and my birthday coming later this year. I am excited about K&C branching out now in this line to other nations.

I will definitely get the Hessians as well. I am looking forward to the new additions in this line for 2008. I hope some artillery is in the works. Also, more personality pieces.

As for a strictly limited piece, I wouldn't mind one with Washington crossing the Delaware River. I do have the limited addition Nap cavalry from the other year. It would be nice to have a strictly limited piece this year from either AWI or from the Naps line.

The Russian Guards are on order ... and will arrive any day to bolster the Alliance. But where are the Austrians ? I do not rstrict myself to Waterloo and am interested in all Napoleonic (and AWI) participants ... in alll the campaigns.

Having said that ... for K&C to expand further its Napoleonic range, it must offer a wider variation of poses. The same lines of standing/squatting, firing/ at the ready British, Scotish, French, Russians, Prussians, Austrians, Bavarians, Brunswickers ... could get a bit tiring.

The latest three NAP/AWI releases ... the Coldstream, Russians & Hesians are almost identical in their offerings. I am still looking forward to a supplemental release of the Coldstream skirmish/melee, like in the Hougoumont scnario.

Where are the WWII or Crusader type poses ? ... there is a fair bit of close quarter combat in Napoleonic battles and this is not reflected in K&C latest releases. A greater mix like the Blackwatch & KGL series.

The upcoming gun releases should be interesting ... IMHO if the guns & figures were separated, with a wider selection gunners offered, say up to 8 different poses, it would allow collectors to build up a more realistic gun line.

I am not unhappy , its that I could be happier.

This is the problem with Napoleonics; you could go off into so many different directions as a manufacturer, what is one to do?

The Russians are nice for Borodino and perhaps Leipzig, but Austrians would be superb too for Aspern/Essling. The Prussians would be great too for both Waterloo and Leipzig and the 1814 campaign in France.

And the surface has not been scratched really for cavalry; on and on it goes boys..........

I believe this Russian release is a trial run on other Nations and how they sell.

My money is on that if the Russians sell very well - we will see other Nations like Austrians, Prussians and Germanic Troops enter the fray. :D

Can anyone recommend a good book on the Napoleonic Wars that have illustrations of uniforms and battle maps?

Hello all!

Hmmm....as to Napoleonic desires and possibilities, where to begin?!

As already mentioned, green-jackets from the 95th would be superb, in fact they'd almost certainly constitute my own personal "dream" Napoleonic release. However, given the distinct similarity in theme and appearance with the KGL riflemen that are still available, I'm not sure if we could reasonably expect to see them in the near future.

As an avowed Waterloo-head, Prussians would be brilliant to see as well - plus they have the added advantage of being quite versatile figures, equally appropriate for Leipzig, the 1814 campaign etc. .

Again though, I recognise that a move on that is extremely dependent of how the new Russian releases fare, given that they represent K&C's first venture outside the traditional big two of their Napoleonic range. Personally, I couldn't forsee myself starting on the Russian range anytime soon, not at all because the figure's aren't appealing (or because of any quibble over head-gear:)), but simply because my principal interest within this series remains with British releases, followed by their French opponents.

Cheers,

Molloy.
