May Dispatches (1 Viewer)

I'm beginning to realize the most annoying complainers on this forum are those who complain about other people's complaining. People are allowed to have an opinion, if it's not always 100% positive, well too bad. As paying customers it's their right. As NySoldiers so aptly said, if you want to see improvements and innovation in this hobby, it will only come about thanks to critical opinions and analyses about where improvements can be made.

On that note, I have to wonder when purple trousers became standard issue in the M43 uniform (set WS120)? Unlike early war German uniforms, in later war uniforms the trousers should be close to the same colour shade as the tunic (gray or reed green), as should the m43 cap which also has a strange purplish tinge in these dispatch photos. I am mentioning all this because in this dispatch K&C has announced they will do future Normandy Wehrmacht sets and I would like to see this colour issue corrected by then.

I will give credit that K&C has finally done an excellent job nailing the colours and pattern of splinter camouflage for the helmet covers - well done on that front.

While I don't collect ACW (yet;)) I hope the new releases do well. This type of early war depiction is what I'm hoping for in the future releases of the WWI line that I have started collecting. I really thought it was great to start out the Germans in the early war "pickle" helmets! Hope to see some early war French in some of those colorful but impractical uniforms.;) Another great month of new releases, plenty of toy soldier candy to add to the want list:). Glad I held out and didn't ebay a Rommel Grief:eek:.

BTW, THANK YOU ANDY FOR NOT RETIRING ANY MORE NAPS (42nd:D:)). REPRIEVED FOR ANOTHER MONTH! NOW IF YOU"LL JUST HOLD OFF ON THE GRAYS TILL SEPTEMBER:D:D:D.

Love the Heer infantry, the Chasseurs are a nice touch, extremely well done IMO. Kudos to Andy for going somewhat going out on a limb with those; as he pointed out, how many Iron Brigade, Union troops in frock coats and kepis can you come out with? I like the direction he is taking the ACW and Collectors Showcase too (14th Brooklyn was a nice touch, the Sharpshooters are superb).

I'd love to see more Zouave regiments, there were loads of them in the
Union army.................

The issue of Zouave regiments is one that is frequently raised by ACW collectors. Yet manufacturers have generally been a bit slow to move into these areas. CS has done the Brooklyn Zouaves and is now comming out with Brendan's sharpshooters. K and C have also chosen to bring out an interesting regiment. However I often wonder whether all these demands translate into sales. It is similar to the demand for Commonwealth soldiers ( which I would like very much to see) which is much repeated on forums and magazines. Does this demand translate into sales. I am not so sure. K and C would not keep producing Germans if they did not sell like hotcakes. Tony has said that he still has a few limited British Shermans in stock that is 4 years after they were introduced. It seems to me that the best market response to give a manufacturer is that one at the bottom of the balance sheet.
Regards
Damian

I see your point on the pictures. I went back and looked again. I don't trust colors in pictures particularly digital ones so we'll see when the figures release. From what I understand feldgrau is a greenish grey that was common and more consistent on early war uniforms. As the situation deteriorated the quality of the wool and color became more eratic and generally more gray.

CS,
Well I think the most annoying complainers are those who complain about those who complain about those who complain! :D:D:D

That's an accurate assessment Frank. I have a French military uniform magazine in front of me, Armes Militaria Magazine N. 203, that has extensive photos of 2nd Panzer Division soldiers on the march in Normandy on June 10th. In the background are real photos of the column and in the foreground are colour photos of reinactors wearing period uniforms that cover the gamut of shades seen at the time, from the greenish gray as you call it worn by older NCOs who retain their early M35 uniforms (with scalloped pockets), to the flat gray on the newer recruits wearing wool M43 unis (identifiable by the straight cut pockets). I don't see any trousers even beginning to resemble a purplish colour. Hopefully it's just the lighting in the dispatch pictures, but what makes me think it's not is this purple colour was also used for K&C's recent early war SS, where it would be more accurate.

On the upside, the general Normandy look of straight cut pockets, short boots with gaiters, M43 caps and splinter camo helmet covers is well represented in K&C's figures at least. On page 34 of the magazine is a picture of a reinactor (and period photo) showing a soldat with cap shouldering a panzerfaust and single panzershreck rocket exactly the same way as the figure in WS 119, who more likely than not was the inspiration for that figure. Also, the aforementioned NCO also has a walking stick just like the NCO figure in WS119. So quite a faithful set to the real pictures, except for the camo tunic.

I think Damian has pretty much nailed this one; why does K & C keep producing Germans? Kind of like asking why MacDonalds keeps making hamburgers and why don't they start selling tuna on wheat? Because Germans/hamburgers sell, while tuna on wheat also does, just not as much.

If/when Andy addressed the Commonwealth issue (let's say for example in the June dispatches he comes out with a raftload of 1944 British troops for D-Day and beyond), we'll see how sales go and take it from there.

Speaking of British troops, after a somewhat slow start, the British Airborne are really, really selling well for me, which is puzzling to me as they have perhaps THE best WWII uniforms going, plus they landed at D-Day and fought with tremendous distiction at Merville Battlery and Pegasus Bridge, plus we all know how brilliantly against all odds they performed at Arnhem/Oosterbeek. In short, they had great uniforms and a terrific track record during their operations, so this should have translated into huge sales IMO................

I think the new ACW figures are beautiful. Not practical if you're making a diorama of Gettysburg or something like that but beautiful figures. Wm Hocker ACW collection has many colorful sets of early war units in unusual uniforms and I think it would be a great idea if K&C did this in matte. This is something I would buy. I also think K&C poses look better on display than crazy action poses.
As for WW2 what is the obsession collectors have with Germans? I just finished reading "An Army At dawn' and am now reading "Day Of Battle". I'd like to get into some WW2 figures from this period. But I'd like to see some Allied forces. Why don't you guys like American and British figures?

Funny you should mention that. I just pre-ordered 5 of the Big Red 1 sets today.

Honestly I'm relatively new to the hobby and don't have that many of any nationality yet so it's all good for me. I admit some Commonwealth figures would be welcome but they'll come.

Quoted from the "what kinda tiger would you like" thread:

This is all fun guys and not to throw cold water on this whole thing, but we don't know what's coming and sometimes we get carried away with the expectations. Then, when the actual announcement is made and it's not what we dreamed of, it can get really ugly on this site with people venting there disapointment against the manufacturer. It's really one of the things I hate about all the talk constantly about "what's going to be announced next month". whatever comes out will always be a major disappoinment to someone and can never live up to all our fantasies.
Bottom line, try to see the good in whatever comes out and not just see what didn't.

I said it before and I'll say it again, what a bunch of nit pickin wieners!
this constant flow of Boo Hoo, Poor Me *****in and moanin really takes the joy out of the forum for me. :(:(:(

I am so disappointed with the new Union figures. I was hoping that King and Country if anyone could show the ferocity of the conflict like companys such as Britains. The poses are so incredibly boring and static that it seems like they are abouut to fall asleap in the middle of the battle. And why did Andy choose to do chasseurs? He should have chose to make a regiment that can be used in a wide range of dioramas and displays. Also, I doubt those fancy uniforms would hold up through hard hard fighting and marching. I may be wrong so I'd like UK Reb to correct me if so but everyone wearing next to pristine Chasseur uniforms without peices of standerd infantry wear isn't entirely accurate.:(

Folks, the 83rd PA. served throughout the entire war and served in just about every major engagement of the Eastern theatre, fighting with the Grand Old Army of the Potomac...They were issued Zoauve uniforms ,as a reward for the smartness at drill. Some of their battle honors..Bull Run,Penisular Campaign,Antietam,Gettysburg..etc,etc.Zoaves regiments were among some of the finest and most reknown of all the combat units of the Union army any many wore those uniforms for their entire length of service...Michael

I'm not dilusional enough to believe this will ever stop, as a matter of fact it's obviously a growing trend. I just told you my take on it. There are plenty of people around who complain about every possible thing, but in my life I simply choose not to associate with them, they only bring you down and life's way too short...:)
Ray

Gees Ray,

I guess I'm behind on reading all of the posts on this thread because I find myself agreeing with you 100% again. Everyone should voice there opinion on a forum such as this. However, sometimes I choose not to read some of them because it brings me down and this hobby is all about fun for me.

jrsteel,

I'm with you, I'd love to see more of the good guys (Allies) regardless if they're US, UK Commonwealth and or even Poles!

Gone from Treefrog? I see it right there (and we expect a last shipment shortly).

Sorry about that comment Peter ,my mistake, I misinterpreted the "not in stock notice" when I tried to buy it, didn't think you were getting anymore as it was being retired.
