Me 163 'KOMET' (1 Viewer)

Can't wait to whip out the ten key and crunch the return on investment on that bad boy

This one should hit all the parameters for a big seller: German, unique, small, and cool looking. My guess/hope is that KC does it as a general polystone release in the $200 range with several Luftwaffe figures and maybe some ground support vehicles (tow or fuel) add ons. Should look great with the Figarti V weapons - and I would not rule out someone else releasing a Komet. Look forward to seeing the first pictures.

Saw a video on this thing on History channel a month or so ago. I just sat bewildered threw the whole episode. I envision the Luftwaffe planning team sat around and the discussion went something like this:

Vehicle construction steps:

1.)Attach approximately 10 meters of bubblewrap to a 100 litre rocket fuel tank.

1a.) Bungee cord weaponry appropriate for the mission to the bubblewrap.

2.) Insert ignition switch along bubblewrap and insert flight stick.

3.) Paint iron cross alongside the bubblewrap to stiffen the pride of Luftwaffe pilot

3a.) If available, attach wings to stabilize craft during freefall landing procedures

4.) Landing gear not optional- ideally not included.

5.) Insert operator- not sure you can call these guys full fledged pilots.

Special Notes:

1.) Ideal Luftwaffe pilot culled from fanatical waffen ss units or perhaps insane asylums.

2.) Monetary bonuses included to those who assemble the Komet's by using fewer than 6 parts.

In all seriousness- this plane was pretty useful to instill fear among allied bombers. The Komet was a great example of psychological warfare though it didn't do anything to stall the allied bombing runs. The nazis would have been better served giving the fuel and parts to Wittman so he could stall the advance for another couple days. The courage of the operators of these things had to be without question. I honestly believe these guys would be as close to inflight missle repairman as there have ever been.

While we're discussing the subject I think we should include the Bachem Ba 349 "Natter"

This is about as close to a manned missile as you can get.

Who in his right mind get into one of these, let alone allow it to be "lit off". Those Nazis must have been desperate

Perhaps we should start a new thread in the History section- Top 10 Nazi Crotch Rockets of WW2 :D:D

No way in a million years you'd get me in one of those things- it would be physically impossible at my size.

The Komet was a dangerous little machine to friend and foe. The maximum flight time was about 7 minutes. The landing gear also dropped on take off - so it was a rough landing. The fuel used was extremely volatile - I think the pilots even wore asbestos flight suits.

Here's a nice looking model of the Komet. Not saying the K & C will look like this, however.

I look forward to K&C productions not because of the planes but for the toy soldier Luftwaffe personel figures. I hope they have a full-geared pilot with this release.

Ron,

Did a google images search and pulled out one that looked nice:)

Here are two from Motion Models that also look nice.
