I just wanted to point out that I have been a member of this Forum for a couple of years now and have got to know some of you pretty good....Most times we all get along and we all support each other and if we have a difference of opinions we still respect each other.

This is my first Forum I have ever joined and it has been a VERY pleasent experience...because of this experience I decided to join a Military Antiques Forum, not mentioning any names of course......my experince has been quite different..... I have met the most ignorant stuck up people you would ever want to meet in a life time.....EVERY idea, every thought I have expressed on this Forum has been put down and made fun of... I am NOT a new collector to militaria, I have been collecting militaria for over 15 years and have been respected as such, I am however a new collector to Toy Soldiers (3 yrs)... BUT.... because I'm new to this FORUM I have been treated like a piece of gum on the bottom of someones shoe!!!! It seems the more money you have and the bigger collection you have gives you the right to abuse people.

Anyhow, I just wanted to tell my Treefrog Family that there is NO place like home, and I am VERY happy to have met you all, I don't get to shows very much so I haven't met very many of you in person but you are all friends never the less....

I'll tell you one thing there is a BIG difference between a toy soldier collector and a militaria collector. A toy soldier collector will help other Forum members if they can within reason...A prime example....I needed a K&C book once that I didn't have and a guy named Brad (JAZZEUM) was nice enough to not only give one of his own up, but, mailed it to me for free....that my friend I have never forgotten...you are a good man.....

Thanks Treefrog for having this Forum and thank you Forum Members for being such a good bunch of guys!!!

Yes W, it is a pretty good bunch isn't it?

I have never been a militaria collector per se, though at one point was acquiring some items here and there. This was related to my dabbling a bit in the re-enacting universe. Went to a couple of great WWI events out in CA, and really enjoyed the experience, but it seemed that being a naive newcomer was part of the charm. As I started to feel more established with the unit (it was 13th Bn. Black Watch of Canada BTW) and started to put my own kit together I started experiencing some of the bad mojo you have described, and it gradually turned me off completely. My unit was great, and a fun bunch of guys, but the participants in a lot of the other units seemed most interested in outdoing each other with the authenticity of their boot laces or watch bands or eye glass frames or stitching on their boots or whatever. Also encountered a lot of snobbery and just plain bad manners among dealers of uniform, weapon and insignia items I was trying to accumulate, Soooooo.........

.......I got completely fed up with the whole experience, sold all of my stuff and bought a bunch of toy soldiers, and that brings us to the present day, and I am much happier with this hobby by a looooooong shot!

I have felt your pain.

You should bring your wife to Chicago this Fall. You get to go to a great show, and she gets to what it's all about, plus enjoy the Windy City to boot.

I would have to agree with you W, this is a great forum with many great members. I am fairly new to the forum and to collecting soldiers. The help I have received has been fantastic. I have learned quite alot since joining and made a few friends, which I do hope to meet at one of the shows. I too received quite few flyers/catalogues from a forum member (DMNamiot)sent at his own cost. This has sent me off on a different collecting tangent and I hope to have a couple pieces arriving soon :) Thanks Dave!!! and I hope I can repay the favour one day.

Here's to a great bunch of Treefroggers :D

Funny you mention reenactors I too was involved with reenacting (American Civil War)(49th NewYork) and it was ok...really not for me...Actually it's not pain that I feel its shock......I have many militaria friends but none are like the ones I met in this group....

Wellington,

As I have stated before; I have had so much more fun with my stuff since joining this forum. I tell people about it all the time. I hope they join as the more the merrier I believe. Some of the guys like Joe and Bob and Rob in New Zealand and many others are great and I am glad to count them as my friends. Take a look at my profile. I am still adding people all the time. Join the KVBML social group. We add so much by sharing here and posting ideas. Not to mention the pictures and dios.

I,m on a few other forum but this was my first and it always feels like home.
I,ve learnt a lot on this forum about our hobby and have also tried to share and help other forum members also. Thats what these forums should be about! shareing the hobby with other like minded collectors.
We all have our different view points from time to time and also seam to have different collecting tastes and styles over here but thats part of the fun of this forum is all the different points of veiw.
I,m glad I found this forum and it has grown a lot since I first joined to include even more collecting styles and veiw points. We don,t always get along at times but we always seam to settle our differences.

I hope this forum continues as its a great stress relief for me and I place where I,ve found many a new freind!

Thanks Shannon and Pete for this great forum!!!

Interresting I just took a hit on the other Forum regarding my chosen field of work which was posted on my profile........not to self don't post any private information about yourself...This may explain some of the attitude I'm getting on the other Forum.

Fishead...you and I are one of the original K&C Napoleonic collectors on here we had some good debates in the past..:)

Yes Wellington we were like the first around here to fly the Napoleonic flag weren,t we?:D
And some good debates in the past for sure! I hope I didn,t ruffle any feathers in that hat of yours in the past Wellington. I,ve considered you one of my good friends here and what friends haven,t gotten under each others skin from time to time?:D
I took a few good digs here and there at you in good fun in the past and I hope you saw it as what it was. I hope!:p
I also have had some real fun with the kilted vamp also and that was even more fun!:D Now those were some fun digs at each other!
Lots of good times on this forum lots of good debates and a few stupid ones also!:p
Heres to the future Wellington! even if you do take so many cheap shots at Napoleon, the true master of the Napoleonic feild of battle (note the name! NAPOLEONIC).
Just think without Napoleon you,d never had heard of Wellington!:p

A feather just fell out of place as I sit and drink my tea......shall I call in the calvary....:)

Wellington Is it to late to edit the name of this thread to A GOOD BUNCH OF GUYS!....... NOT!!!:p

....:)....I just saw the new British figures they are very nice!!!

WELLINGTON

And just about the same price as K&C now and better looking! I wonder who,ll be getting my money in the future????? Have you gotten any of these yet or seen them in person wellington?
NICE STUFF!!!

I don't have any...to tell you the truth......I don't have the funds or the room anymore....I think all these companies are pushing their luck given the economy and all....I think K&C figures have gone overboard on the price...the other figures are obviously worth the little extra....I think K&C better pull up their socks!!!

I agree with you guys on the First Legion British Guards. Just incredible! I like the idea of four variations of the repelling figures they will offer from what First Legion told me. I think I will take out my Highlanders I have and insert these figures into my display against the French Cavalry. I will then rename the display. Currently I have the display titled "Broken Square". I will rename it "Death by Square". :D I am sure Capitolron will love that! No more French victories in this house.
