End Of My Collecting Career (3 Viewers)

Not that anyone cares but I just sold my house and now moving into a small castle...which has most definently dented my collecting career...although it is a better move for my family and will curve my spending habits....I had a choice cut back on collecting and buy a really really really nice home in a BEATIFUL area which is better for my children and my wife and I or stay in a nice house on a busy street...we got a good price for our house and got a great deal on the other...I know Fishead has gone through something similar recently...has anyone else made such a decision...

Best of all the basement offers a great collecting room which my wife has agreed to designate as mine....many problems solved... Truthfully I'll be sneaking in the odd figure...

As this is a hobby the family come first in my humble opinion and so I think you have made the right decision. It's not as if you have had to sell your collection to help fund the move.....is it? As you say, I'm sure that you will find as time goes on you will continue to add to your collection .

I don't think you are alone on this one.

No matter how many or how few our soldiers might be, we all share a certain passion for them. Yes, real life decisions can force us to make the unpopular choice of downsizing collections or cut back on purchases. This should not mean a total withdrawal from the toy soldier scene..This forum allows all, who loves toy soldiers to contribute, in total privacy as to whether the best ideas or most helpful member, owns 2 figures or a personal museum. Thanks guys...collecting is in my blood....my initial plan was to collect ALL K&C figures of the Napoleonic series but this will not happen now...I will only collect the ones I really like such as the Napoleon special edition ....in the end this probably is the smarter way of collecting anyhow....I will be staying on the forum with all the friends I have here....I could foresee this happening anyhow with the rise in cost to K&C figures I CAN'T justify 32.00 for a figure anymore and rather spend it on real estate.

Thanks guys...collecting is in my blood....my initial plan was to collect ALL K&C figures of the Napoleonic series but this will not happen...I will only collect the ones I really like such as the Napoleon special edition ....in the end this probably is the smarter way of collecting anyhow....I will be staying on the forum....I could see this happening anyhow with the rise in cost to K&C fugures I CAN'T justify 32.00 for a figure anymore and rather spend it on real estate.

I think once you get settled in the new home - you will be able to pick up a piece here and there - especially since Toy Soldiers run now about $32.00 a figure than those beautiful british cutlass that run thousands !!

Good luck with the move Wellington, I am sure you will be happy in your new home. I agree with you on collecting, I would rather have a few special pieces (some that may have even taken a while to secure) than just a cabinet full of stuff. Much more meaningful in my mind

Congratulations Wellington!!!
Buying a new house can be stressfull but once you get settled in its a great feeling. Just make sure you start packing early, pack anything your not useing now and lable the boxes so you know whats what! The move it self was the most stressful part, start planning your move now. Buy a bunch of those cheap plastic totes, they were great for the move. I picked up a bunch of rubbermade 18gal. totes for like $4-$5 each.
Start packing and lableing now. This well save you a lot of last minute stress.
If the new house needs any work done you should try and get it done before you move in if possible and move a few boxes and totes over each time you go to work on the house.
I know all about the boat your in with the collecting! I,ll have to cut back my spending also and with the new K&C prices I think I,ll be switching to just picking up a First legion figure here and there instead. I think they look MUCH better and at only $3 dollars more! I think Andy has priced himself right out of my bussiness!
You my want to try your hand at painting your own figures and building your own stuff, its more fun anyway and your kids may enjoy helping you?
Now you can have your own little man cave and have a place to run away from your old lady!

I wasn,t really ready for the move myself and wanted to wait and was kind of forced into moving earlier then I wanted to but to tell you the truth, I,m very glad I did. I love the new house. As far as collecting goes I,ll just have switch my collecting habbits and do more painting and converting and do it yourself type stuff. If I have some extra cash I,ll buy a few painted metal figures that catch my eye. I might still collect the Britains line of figures, there prices haven,t gone through the roof YET!!!
