I gotten my nephew interested in collecting toy soldiers.* Right now he is into plastic figures (He is eight).* I have given him a Trophy Zulu War Artillery Set. He realizes that he cannot play with it and it has an honored place in his cabinet with his other prized items.

When I visit the Toy Soldier Shoppe he comes with me and he picks up a few Britains Deetail Figures. He loves to look at the the cabinets. Hopefully, he will become a collector when he gets a little older.

He is looking forward to going to the Chicago Show in September.

That is pretty cool! You are lucky, I have no nephews, but I hope to get my

grandaughter interested in the future......she is 1.:D

Brian,
Thats the best thing you can do for a young man. To spend the time with him is what really counts. Trust me... your nephew will remember what you and he did, forever...And he'll PASS IT ON.

I tried to get my cousin involved last night at my brother's wedding reception... That went over well. Two drunk idiots. Mike

I definately passed it on to my son. He has a running battle going on out in the yard. This ever growing complex of wood reinforced trenches filled with soldiers and equipment that he throws rocks at. Through him a few other boys have been infected, and I sometimes give them playsets on a whim. One kid's dad was in Iraq with the Marines, so I gave him the BMC Iwo set, with extra bagged figures and landing craft. I do the same with all nephews once they reach a certain age. One is a marching band figure collector now. Another just turned 7 and I gave him a slew of Britains WWII detail stuff with this fort they built in late 90's. I did share it with my daughter as well, but quickly saw she preferred horses and animal figurines (she would set up Timpo crusaders eating at meals :D What's in the pot ? Lego heads! :D)

I got my dad interested in toy soldiers. He's big on dimestore and glossy figures while I prefer plastic and matte.

I have gotten my son collecting, three of my co- workers, and now my wife may start collecting, hey i wonder if Andy will pay out on commision??sammy

Well I did it again, I started another nephew down the road of toy soldier collecting. Now I only have three more to go.

I am not sure if I have more fun buying them soldiers or buying them for myself. I do enjoy seeing them set them up and play with them.

I was watching him set up his soldiers into teams as he call them. It took him quite a while to set them up, when he was just about finshed, his younger brother walked into the room and did a Godzilla walk through them. During the ensuing comotion the dog finished the job and I then remembered the samething happening to me. It was a tradegy when it happened, but now it is a great memory.

I quess thats what it is all about.

I got my nephew interested in it just recently after he saw my new display case and all the new stuff I had bought. He is mostly into Civil War. I went with them on a Gettysburg trip last summer and gave him a fairly good tour of the battlefield. His sister is very into history too, and I buy them books, CW bullets, and other things on occasion. My nephew is now looking at K&C online, and I gave him a link to Treefrog.

The display cases are great for getting their attention. I too have gotten them CW bullets. My nephews are still a little to young for history books, but they love my old toy soldiers magazines. My one nephew wants his Dad to get him a laptop of his own so he can look at toy soldiers on the computer like Uncle Brian.:D

I have not been successful yet, but my father got me interested when for my 5th birthday he built me a 1/72 scale diorama base and painted some 1/72 scale Confederate infantry up for me, and the rest was history and I was hooked. Then came more 1/72 scale, and I always remember how much I enjoyed as a small lad going to the local hobby store and looking at all the Imex, and Accurate, Arifix, etc. figures. Then I started receiving BMC bags of toy soldiers, my first was the Alamo or ACW. The Alamo really tied into my childhood when I first saw Fess Parker as Davy Crockett and I was scarred when I saw him killed at the Alamo:eek::eek::eek:!!! Then I moved onto CTS figures. I then moved into Conte plastic, which pushed me into matte, so about a decade later I am still a toy soldier FANATIC!!!!!

It's difficult to find a lot of people interested in history let alone military miniatures... I had very few friends interested in history when I was growing up. I got introduced to toy soldiers when I received some Britains swoppet knights and American Revolution sets one Christmas back in the late 1960's. My parents recognized my interest in history when I started grade school and indulged it. I dropped the hobby altogether when I entered high school and only got back into it again in 1999 but, I never lost my interest in hstory the whole time. :)

People come into the shop and say" I did not know you guys were here. This is so cool!" When I am there it is like turning on a light switch. My passion for the hobby and the history come in. I always mention the forum and I know several people have come on to this forum. There are a lot of aspects to this hobby and I do most of them . I know a little about a lot:D So I try to steer them in the right direction. You can ask the good people at Sierra. I have given gifts of the figures to friends and loved ones as well. I will leave no stone unturned to promote this hobby.
