Are We Out of 1914 - Yet ? (1 Viewer)

Ron,

Nothing said that Andy has to go in order. The next series may be 1917 with warplanes (and crews), tanks, doughboys...

let us not forget Von Lettow-Vorbeck being chased all over lower Afrika by Smuts and gang. the mind does indeed boggle. what of Col. Driant at Verdun? you must remember, Great Britain did not fight alone. France did contribute a little something to final victory. and a Russian 1914 infantry regiment or two would be nice. keep it coming! - lancer

Would very much like to have some French at Verdun.Maybe in mud stained uniforms and Gas masks?.The war would certainly not been won without them, the Brits,Americans,Russians,Australian's,New Zealanders,South Africans,Canadians etc.Right did i leave anyone out?

Rob

while it was a world war, it was France that was sacrificed for victory. the statistics are mind-numbing. during August 1914, from the 20th to the 23rd, 40,000 French soldiers were KIA (22,000 KIA on Aug.22nd alone). by Aug. 29, French losses for the war had reached 260,000 with 75,000 KIA. makes Mons a skirmish by comparison. i do not belittle the British sacrifice. just making people aware of the French sacrifice... - lancer

It was the firepower of the British army that slowed the Germans at Mons,i'm sure the guys facing the German onslaught did not consider it a 'Skirmish'.Great Britain lost hundreds of thousands killed and wounded fighting in France. This despite the attitude of some of the French including one of their generals who made the remark 'The British need only send a single soldier and we will take great care to see that he is killed'.Be sure of one thing my friend,my country made a huge sacrafice in young men fighting in France, whether you like it or not its a fact.Try visting any village/town and city in this country you'll see the memorials.

no argument here about the British sacrifice. i simply meant that the size of the French effort is little understood in the U.S. our common heritage and language mean that most all of my reading and study are English language sources. 1914 changed the world forever and WW1 is my favorite area of study. i do indeed appreciate the British efforts and meant no offence to any involved. a tragedy is a tragedy. - lancer

No offence taken mate, and of course the French suffered much higher casualties than we did, they also suffered (twice in fact)the horror of having the Germans invade their country. And however difficult the allied relationship was at least they fought together (as in WW2 )to drive the Germans back.So my friend i'd love to see some French K&C troops at Verdun;)

I am with you - would love to see more releases ! :D

THE PURPOSE OF THE THREAD WAS TO BRING ATTENTION THERE ARE WWI COLLECTORS WHO WANT MORE - LOOKS LIKE IT WORKED ;)

On the GAS MASKS - I agree would love them - however, first use of Gas in WWI was in 1915 :(

Unless I interpeted it wrong, looks like the boss posted a giant no relative to late war figures.
Gary

I think what Andy is saying is that we will still be in 1914 for a while. This range is still a new range and i hope has years to run yet,so there will be plenty of time for late war stuff and all that comes before it.I'm just guessing here you understand,i don't have any inside info!;)

Rob

From what Andy has told me and Louis - is that he plans to do each year of the Great War one at a time; 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917, and 1918.

Sounds like its going to be a TWO YEAR cycle of releases for each year - at least !!

So if the figures came out at the end of last year 2007 - we are probally looking at 2009 at the earliest before we see 1915....ugh

So much for collecting American WWI Soldiers anytime soon. ;)

Sorry guys but i think this is a good thing, the longer the better for me.I want my collection in depth and not just glossed over.If you think how long the WW2 range has been going i'd love to see WW1 on the same scale. So much to cover and many different areas of operations, the more the better i say.:)

Don't forget that Mons is in Belgium

:D

I'm sure the Doughboys will arrive Ron,it'll give you a chance to keep building up your German forces for them to face when they reach the trenches;)

No i don't think we will ever forget that.I went there a couple of years back and walked on the Bridge that Private Godley and friend won the first VC.

Here's how it will break down then:
1914: 2007-2008
1915: 2009-2010
1916: 2011-2012 (world ends somewhere here) :D
1917: 2013-2014
1918: 2015-2016

So Doughboys won't show up until the year 2014. Makes you kind of appreciate how late to the party they were. I think that's a good thing, it will leave lots of time to give attention to the Canadians - best army in the world in 1917/1918!

Right,so what are we expecting in dispatches August 2016?:D

Rob

Hope we are CS,although i may have run out of room for soldiers by then.
