Since the work horse of the ardennes campaign was the mark iv panzer I'm surprised we have not seen one released by K&C, (a winter zersion) I know Figarti put one out last year and it sold great!! I think it is a great looking tank and what winter dio would be complete without a K&C mark iv panzer?? hint hint Andy, hope it's on the to-do list in the near future:)...sammy

I second the motion........an excellent suggestion......The grey panzer IV short barrel could be released as a winter version without new moulds being made.....also varying the turret numbers would stimulate purchases of multiples for diorama use (not for speculative resale).......for those who want to create a battle scene......

I third the motion. :)

The short barreled Panzer IV (any model earlier than Ausf.F2) was retired long before the Ardennes campaign. The pending Figarti Panzer IV Ausf.J would be appropriate, particularly if they put a good late war factory paint scheme on it.

In terms of German tanks present during this offensive, excluding assault guns and self propelled anti tank guns, the following would be the types present:
  • Panzer VI Tiger Ausf.B & E
  • Panzer V Panther Ausf.G
  • Panzer IV Ausf.H & J
* I did come across a single Panzer III (unknown model) on the books of the 9th Panzer Division

Just to put some perspective around the condition of some of these units before and during this battle here are the actual unit situation reports for early December 1944 and early January 1945.

Panzer Lehr Division
1944.12.1 Pz.IV 27 (14 operational), Pz.V 22 (2 operational)
1945.1.1 Pz.IV 14 (7 operational), Pz V 24 (5 operational)

2nd Panzer Division
1944.12.6 Pz.IV 28 (26 operational), Pz V 6 (4 operational)
1945.1.1 Pz IV 4 (0 operational), Pz V 20 (7 operational)

9th Panzer Division
1944.12.1 Pz.IV 36 (8 operational), Pz V 25 (12 operational)
1945.1.1 Pz IV 28 (18 operational), Pz V 41 (26 operational)
(This division also shows 1 Panzer III on it's books 1945.1.1)

116th Panzer Division
1944.12.1 Pz.IV 21 (21 operational), Pz V 31 (19 operational)
1945.1.1 Pz IV 4 (1 operational), Pz V 36 (7 operational)

The authorized strength for a 1944 Panzer Division was
Pz.IV 91 Pz.V 79

I agree with you guys. These are prototypes of Figarti Pz. IV's displayed at the Chicago Show in September.

Would this beauty suffice for Ardennes with or without armored skirts painted in the correct camo scheme? Notice how the hatches open and close and skirts are removal to achieve the theme you're looking for in your diorama.

yes figarti makes a very nice looking mark iv, but my thing is i want to see a k&C version (winter that is)...sammy

I have the Figarti IV and I wasn't impressed with the skirts, they are flimsy as all else so if you have this tank dont stress them in anyway!! They will literally tear like paper, I had to convert mine to look like some skirts have been lost, it looks great but for the price you would think they wouldnt be so fragile. Still a great looking Panzer IV. I like the mesh skirting too!!!

Fortunately, these mesh Figarti skirts are made entirely different from the previous construction with earlier Pz. IV releases.

I would like to see a Panzer IV ausf. F2 or G (long gun but NO side or turret add-on armor). It's the only visual variant of Panzer IV that I don't believe any company has produced in European theatre colours in 1:30 scale. It is a missing necessity for my Kharkov 1943 Eastern Front scene.

Panzer IV in winter would be GREAT from KC. I had their long barreled desert version and really liked it-but decided against doing AK (a man has to know his limitations-lol). I wish I could've given it the 'Alex treatment' and converted it to winter.
