is because of the Senatus Populus que Romanus SPQR write on the top of the gate...LOL...:D:)
 
Yes - Caesar and I went through that type of Gate many times ! :eek:
 
Yes, it definitely looks like fortifications that can still be found in the old Roman areas of Europe. I'm thinking of the limes in Germany, or border forts on Hadrian's Wall, for example.

And I think the inscription "SPQR" was used long into the Imperial period, wasn't it? So the gate can pass from republican times into the Empire.

I would say yes. I will try to post a photo of the gate with 60 and 54mm figures for comparison.
