Am formulating another project and need some input from the guys here on the forum. I'm looking to redo a couple of various Pacific theater Marine LVT's. I'm unclear as to how much blue is in the Ocean Grey base paint?
Anyone? can you advise on good brands of paint?

I can't remember who's paint is rated most accurate but the LVTs were purchased by the USN and were painted Ocean Gray. In mid (?) 1944 there was an order from the Army to repaint their LVTs in Olive Drab. I don't know when this affected the Navy Marine vehicles Some LVTs used by the Marines were painted in camouflage colors.

I was wondering the same thing. I've painted them before in a light grey color but was thinking of adding some blue to it the next time around.

Here is a photo of a USMC tank park in Hawaii in late WW2. Note the gray LVTs in the left foreground. 1) Ocena gray seems to be a dark bluish gray and 2) the color varies after exposure to sea water and sun.

I did some more googling on the subject and found Floquil put out an Ocean Grey that was recommended as 1941 measure 14 camo standard. While it didn't specifically mention LVT's I don't see any evidence they recieved any special color treatment.
Unfortunately I guess Floquil is no longer a company as I believe it's part of Testor's or someone. I was able to find a couple of bottles Floquil 5-0 Ocean Grey 505332 and I've ordered them. I guess we'll see when they arrive.
