Did any of the UK Treefroggers catch the two-part series shown last week? If so what did you think of it from a historical viewpoint.

As I live in deepest darkest Sussex I spoke to a local historian who much to my surprise raved positively about the programme, especially the portrayal of anglo-saxon life and language. He had a theory that the infusion of Norman society, customs and behaviours mixed with those of the anglo-saxons is a major reason of why the England became the country it did in later centuries!

I thought it was good entertainment and made a change from having to endure the usual soap opera diretribe that emanates from the main celestrial channels on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

For those who didn't or couldn't see it I suggest you get hold of the dvd from Channel 4.

I saw most of the first and all of the second episode and thought it was really good. I also live in deepest darkest Sussex (the East) and Battle is only 30 minutes drive away!

Couldn't agree more with you about the soap's!

I caught glimpses of the first, and saw the last half hour of the second:)

Thought it wa snot too shabby;):D:D:D

I taped this and have just got round to watching it.Really very good and i enjoyed it a lot.The Scene where the Huge Viking guy on Stamford Bridge was 'wounded horribly inside' made my eyes water and my legs cross!:eek:.Good battle scenes and authentic sounding dialogue,i thought it was as said above a great change from the usual rubbish we are served up month after month.

I was really looking forward to this and was personally disappointed with what I saw to the extent that I didn't even want to watch the second part. :(

Thought the acting was rather wooden on more than one occasion and the low budget made it look like there were 10 vikings against 10 saxons at the battle of stamford.

Not sure if the battle of hastings was any better.

There is a definately a big gap out there for a decent high budget film / tv series on the saxons!
