I once asked the question how many Napoleonic soldiers it would take to represent regiment at this scale. Andy very nicely provided a detailed answer. Now as my cavalry forces expand the same questions is arising for my brave Dragoons. How many cavalry soldiers does it take at this scale to represent a regiment? I welcome all comments on this and look forward to an answer so I can plan my Christmas purchases accordingly.

Thanks,

Hi Old Guard;
The Empress Dragoons supposed to count at the creation in 1806:
- 4 squadrons
- 1 squadron vélites

In 1807 only 2 squadrons were organized, counting 476 dragoons; Also the vélite squadron of 296 dragoons was organized. Together with 60 officers and 21 members of the staff, the regiment counted 793 dragoons and 60 officers.
You need 28 figures to bring the whole regiment on the 1/30 scale!

At the end of 1807, the two other squadrons were formed: this means you need another 18 figures to be complete.....:D :D

This may seem very simple to most, but I use 2 figures to represent a Squadron for my wargames, so most French Regiments are 8 figures.At least that way I can field Brigades and even Divisions.

Thanks for the information bricoleur. Hmmm 28 is going to require a lot of money. I had better be very good this year for Santa to bring that much.

Fubar,
Do you wargame with K&C figures? What kind of rules?
Eddy

I have only rana couple different games for Napoleonics and never really serious, more or less to socialize and have fun. I have an old set we used years ago for 15mm called " Fire and Steel" and we just adjusted the movement rates, and firing ranges as well as adjust morale rules for the troops since we use 8 figures for a cavalry unit and not 32!
My Napoleonic collection has some King and Country but mostly Frontline, Britains and eeegads, plastics or metal kits I painted.Mostly for Waterloo but I have a fair amount of Russians, Prussians and Austrians I'm working on .

I wish there were some 54mm rules for Napoleonics but I dont think we'll see any very soon as wargamers generally don't go for 54-60mm armies.
