Does anybody recognize these soldiers?
Hussars look like Imperial production....

Not sure about the standing figures, but the Hussars are the 11th Hussars and are by Britains. Re-issued from the old lead moulds made in the late 90's/ early 2000's. Standing figure with the axe is also a Britains re-issue.

Hi There

The Three mounted troopers are 2 Hussars and the other trooper is a Dragoon from the Britains Charge of the Light Brigade set number 5197. There should be one 17th Lancer and another Dragoon to make a complete set plus a Russian Gun w/Crew.

Yo Trooper, I know what Dave is saying, but dont think these are out of the set mentioned by Dave. Britains also did sets of four of the Light Brigade, you can see them in my Balaklava album. The ones shown are from left to right.

Britains # 3109 8th Kings Royal Hussars.
Britains # 3110 11th Hussars.
Britains # 3111 4th Light Dragoons.

Bernard is also correct they did companion sets for the limited edition set I mentioned so they could easily be singles from them as well but thats purly conjecture. Either way they are certainly Britains figures.

Hi, guys!

The grenadier and officer standing in the front row are by John Paxton Sherriff, but I can't remember the specific line, off the top of my head. He operated as "Guards and Garrisons", but also had a more well-known trade name. He also wrote a very good book on making toy soldiers, from start to finish.

As a coincidence, I just bought those same two figures on eBay about 2 weeks ago, mixed in a group of figures from various makers.

If someone can remember the other trade name Sherriff used, please refresh my memory, but I'll check tonight when I get home, too.

"All the Queen's Men" was the excellent line of soldiers made by Derek Cross. He closed up the business recently, within the past couple of years, if I'm not mistaken.

Also, the three foot figures at the right end of the line represent one of Roger's Rangers, a French officer from the SYW/FIW, and a Continental Marine. Not sure about the manufacture, though. The French officer looks like he might actually be a Sanderson casting, possible of an officer of the Royal Navy or some other service, but painted as a French officer, though I may be mistaken.

Can't quite tell about the Ranger. Is the base solid, or does the figure have a shaped base cast integrally with the figure, and then it was glued to a larger square base?

The marine might be a Tradition figure, one of their lines uses an oval base similar to that figure's base.

Yo Trooper, really surprised at that answer, how did such a good set get split up. In that case as Dave says you need to find a 17th Lancer, a 13th Light Dragoon, a cannon with bucket, and four Russian gunners, then you have set 5197 complete with box. Sounds good though "found the box in a pile" lol.

Hey Brad, just saw this post. You got those two Union Jacks the same time I got 4 Union Jacks cavalry, I think from the same guy. I saw the foot figures but went after the horsemen as I only had 2 I bought many years ago and I had never seen them since. I was thrilled to get the cavalry (at a rock bottom price that I was prepared to double) since no one else bid. The seller had no idea what they were and had mislabeled the era as well. The Union Jacks are beautiful figures. They are only the second item I have ever purchased off e-bay. -- Al

Hi, Al, I didn't even see those! My two figures were in an auction with a King-White/Reeves British Revolutionary War general. That's the one I was really after, and the Sherriff figures were icing on the cake

The seller must have gotten himself a book in the meantime, because his current auctions are all starting at higher amounts than when you and I got to him, he's got around a dozen going off, mostly Tradition painted sets.

I just got more "UTS" (undefined toy soldiers):

1. One set looks like American Revolution soldiers very colorful and nicely painted, they even have felt on the base.

2. The second selection is total mystery...based on the poses I would think that they are Authenticast Comet by Holger Erikson, but Comet soldiers usually have distinctive "curved" base...
What do you think guys?
