Cavalry Reenactments ? (1 Viewer)

Does anybody know if there are reenactment events that involve a cavalry charge, maybe from the ACW or AWI?
I do like to collect mounted figures and it would be very exciting to see and hear a large number of mounted troops charging across a field.
My personal "experience" of riding is restricted to pony rides as a kid and a few years ago a guided 1-hour ride in the Smoky Mountains, TN, which I still recall very well, cause I hardly was able to sit on a bar stool next day
However, after sitting on a real horse I spent a lot of time thinking about all those mounted warriors through history and what skills it takes, not only to control a horse but then fighting too .
The Mongols, the Plains Indians, the Parthian Archers, the Samurais, all those cavalry troops in the Napoleonic period and on and on.
If there are cavalry reenactments and the travel distance is not too far I would sure like to watch that.

I don't know of any-though that's not to say that there aren't any-but one limiting factor is the cost of keeping a horse.

I have seen small units that re-enact light dragoons from the Revolutionary War, and there's a group that re-enact Jäger from Hessen-Kassel, and they have some mounted Jäger in their group.

Weren't the cavalry in "Gettysburg" supplied by re-enactor groups?

I believe there is one group in South Africa that reenacts the Boer War. Perhaps Damian might know about them

Not re-enactment,but once a year the King's Troop have their annual inspection. After the inspection the battery marches past the saluting base in conventional manner, and then form up in line and the gunners, who normally ride behind the guns, move up between the guns and the whole mass charge down at full gallop, a solid wall of horses locked knee to knee. It is a stirring sight.

Try looking on-line for photos and Youtubes of this year's Waterloo. I have seen a couple of poor quality movie shot from the crowd of the French charge on the British Squares.

Check out the next re-enactment at Perryville Ky. I believe they will have some mounted folks there. Not sure of the quality but the battlefield is close to you and is still in much the same condition as it was in the 1860's.

that event looks interesting. I just checked their website. It is going to be on October 3rd and 4th.
They have cavalry involved and it is only a 2-hour drive from where I live.

Another one you may want to check out is Morgan's Raid. It takes place in the corner of Ohio, WV and KY. Every two years they have an event where the Cavalry and horse drawn artillery travels miles each day and arrives at predetermined areas to have reenactments viewed by the public. Of course they have their own unscripted engagements along the way. I was envolved in 2003 and they have it every two years and this is a reenactment year if they are still doing it and I believe they did year before last. There will be more cavalry at that event than anywhere else you'll find. There is also another event by the same name that is held yearly on the original ground on Buffington Island. This one is a good bet too as it is mainly a cavalry event.
