Just curious....buying habits (1 Viewer)

Another set of 3 figures is WS051 MG42 Gun Team which you can find at Troops of Time or Monkey Depot.

I just buy the figures I like, which generally are adaptable to many different scenes. I do not worry about whether it is the whole series or whatever since the manufacturer's vision is likely different than my own.

Whatever I can get away with without Mrs Evzone noticing and whatever my credit card can withstand!

Since the US dollar strengthed late last year I haven't bought one pre-painted figure. I have bought kits and done them myself. With postage included I can't justify spending close to 50 NZD per figure.
They don't look as good after I have had my way with them but it sure is fun not to mention cheaper.

That's usually what I do too Bill. If I like something I'll just go and buy it, as long as I can justify the price to myself - in fact the justification of price and value for money part, (not always the same thing), is the primary consideration before I'll place an order for anything. Which in turn means I'm not much of a completist, unless its First Legion's catalogue I happen to be looking at, with the exception of their WWII range which I'm not quite sold on for some reason - excellent as it is.
I do occasionally buy items with a certain purpose in mind, such as the two K&C figures I purchased recently that are earmarked to feature in a specific diorama I've got planned for some Figarti pieces.

Thanks
Harry

I also buy pretty much what I like. Cost is a major factor so I am not a completist either. The nearest I come to completist is the JJD POA series and the JJD Jacobites. Everything else is whatever I can afford and like. -- lancer

For the collectors who like to put together dioramas. Do you guys (gals?)buy items with a specific diorama in mind or just buy everything you can that comes along and then build a diorama from the items you already have?

Bill W

I started off just with a very basic set up on a book shelf and as my collection increased and my knowledge of the period broadened (I am AWI range collector), I progressed to a diorama board and have since started to adapt that to look like a 'realistic' American landscape.

I am also aiming for a realistic set up in terms of how my regiments are formed, i.e. the right amount of officers and NCO's how many men in a rank etc. I am now concentrating on buying figures that have been out longer as I am always conscious of retirements and I would be gutted to only have a half complete regiment and the figures become retired!

I started out with the thought of "the diorama that I am working on", now I am just collecting what ever I like. Hoping to make a bigger, better diorama in the future. More money, more options.
