WWII Africa (1 Viewer)

At the risk of getting a pizza thrown at me, considering their massive losses, I would really like some destroyed Italian armor along with some dead, wounded or surrendering Italian troops.

No WW2 tank had any a/c. Armored vehicles are designed for a military purpose and crew comfort rarely entered the equation until the last few years. Tank are hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Go to a monument tank (not uncommon in US parks) and climb on it in the middle of a hot summer day. Now imagine having to live in or around it day after day. The men who actually ran the tanks in any army deserve respect just for the job, with or without the combat.

Yes, if I'm not mistaken in military design terms people are referred to as "soft parts". A bit course but the truth.

Keep it silly

Humber is top of the list followed by a M4A1(?) British Sherman at El Alamein in New Zealand markings, and a Sd.Kfz. 232 8 wheel Panzerspahwagen.

wouldn't mind seeing a british sherman in the africa range myself!!!

That is a really cool looking vehicle, thanks for posting it Polarbear. If K&C make that one I'll be on it! Love Commonwealth armour.

Cheers

Top of the list for me would be a British Sherman, no holds barred.

Either side's armored crew members in Africa must have been a sweaty bunch! How about that for some realism - tank uniforms with underarm sweat stains and/or damp shirts!

no worries mate, this is not pizzagate!:D

i like your idea.

unfortunately for the italian troops, they were poorly led by their italian superiors, and those scenes were very common at the beginning of the desert war.

saying that, when the DAK came, the Italian troops fought much, much better under the Desert Fox.

and in some cases (eg. covering the DAK's retreat), excelled (even though they were left behind for Monty's boys to chew).

My choices would be a Sherman an M7 Priest and ( i think its called) Matador and gun , i also like the armoured car. Apologies for dodgy writing , am doing this from phone Rob

Pizzagate…Hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just put that in because I know there are a few collectors who are very passionate about the Italian fighting forces and I respect that enthusiasm.

You are absolutely right. It seems as though many of the battles that the Italians got decimated in were ones that came down to poor or inexperienced leadership. I also should have noted that I think every single series could use more surrendering, wounded or dead pieces. Allies and Axis alike.

i agree i would love to see some british soldiers being taken prisoner as my grandad was taken prisoner during the italy campaign

It is always remarkable when a company makes a set that has a special connection with a collector, like the one that you mentioned with your granddad, so I do hope they make something along those lines.

I have heard that those types of pieces, surrendering wounded etc. do not sell as well as other items. I am not sure if this is true or not, but they really add to the action and realism of dioramas and I feel that the hobby could really use more of them. Again, I was not picking on the Italians; the idea applies to all sides and countries that fought in N. Africa.

No more lists?

Like:

- American : Lee/Grant
- German : Panzer IV, Tiger
- British : Crusader, Matilda

What should I add to the list and have in my collection.

Thanks for all the feedback I already got on this thread.

Keep it comming

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but how about a KC Stuart "Honey" for the Brits? Forgive me if someone has asked for this and I missed it, but I would actually buy a "Honey" as I like the Stuart and I have the Normandy version. Read "Brazen Chariots" as a teen and always have liked the "Honey" in desert mode and colors. -- lancer
