I am in the process of building some real stone walls with small stones and find myself in need of an adhesive for stability. Any suggestions on something that would hold pretty well? Something that does not require painting would be best.

Mortar?
Sorry.;)

But along those lines, how about some of the plaster type products, rather than glue? They could be colored to suit with a drop of paint prior to use.

Another alternative might be the 'Grips like Nails' type product, that's usually cartridge fed.

I thought about some plaster but it is rather fragile. I can't find anything on "Grips like nails"; is that a UK product?

Hmmm, I wouldn't have thought so, but couldn't be sure. It came on to the market a good few years back, from a number of different adhesive / sealant manufacturers. It goes by a number of different names, but all indicating pretty much the same sort of thing. It's an adhesive come filler, that has good 'grab' and is used for mounting skirting boards, dado rails and anything else you can think of.

I can't think it would only be available this side of the Pond, but I don't know what it might be known as in the US.

I agree Liquid Nails, or another silicone sealer should do the trick. A visit to

your local Home Depot would be a good place to start.

I have had great success with plain old white glue ( Elmer's glue) Dries clear and is water soluble

If you want a "super quick dry" glue......use a hot glue gun.....dries in seconds. Literally in seconds.

For mortar filler in between the rocks once assembled I would use a sanded grout first.

Celluclay or Thompson's Water Putty would work.

The grout comes in all colors at Home Depot.

Grout and Celluclay dry slow, overnight.

The powdered water putty dries in 10 minutes if mixed thick.

I think a sanded grout in the color you like.....very realistic.
