How many of you guys getting the Hurricane (1 Viewer)

That hasn't been the case with the Corgi 1/32 scale according to the sales figures Spitfrnd has provided. Do you think K&C collectors will be different?

Terry

He listed Production figures not Sales figures. The Corgi 1/32 diecast aircraft range proved to be a commercial failure partly because the people making the decisions had an over fondness for British aircraft and did not concentrate on aircraft flown by the main Aces.

Suffice to say the consistent best selling 1/32 Corgi Models listed on eBay are the Me 109's flown by the German aces Hartmann (AA34904) and Barkhorn (US34903). Most other Corgi 1/32 diecast aircraft models can be bought on eBay well under the original RRP.

Nationality aside, aircraft models are not much different from Armor. For sales success you either make a model based on a famous aircraft, especially if flown by an ace, or choose an aircraft with an attractive coloration. Why do think K & C make so many Normandy colored tanks rather than Grey ;)

There is a certain romance about the Battle of Britain with collectors - against the odds / fighting for Freedom - especially with the British Planes.

I think the Spitfire is without doubt the most popular plane of WW2.As kids we all got Spitfires and Hurricanes and then got ME109'S FW190's as they were the opposition.There is a fw190 at the museum and popularity wise its not in the same leagues as the Spitfire.The Spitfire and Hurricane represent the defiance,the refusal to submit and finally the Victory over the Luftwaffe.The big difference is that many people actually come out and say they love the Spitfire,very few if any say they love a FW190 or an ME109.Perhaps its only natural as the Luftwaffe were the enemy to be defeated,but they just don't hold the same affection or admiration that RAF planes do.

Rob
Not to discount that but it rather helps that the Spitfire was the most beautiful fighter aircraft of the war and through its successive engine and weapon upgrades, the best dogfighter throughout the war. No other aircraft can lay claim to that.:cool: A P-51 can do it over Berlin but not what a Spitfire can do.;):D

Yes he did list production figures but also pointed out which ones were sold out at dealers and which ones were still available from dealers. Most of the Hurricanes and Spitfires are sold out. Most of the Me109s and Mustangs are not. I don't know how often the sold out ones show up on e-bay or how well they sell?

For lovers of the wonderful victorious RAF, I give you without doubt the most famous,best loved and iconic fighter plane of WW2;

:D LOL! I don't think we would have beaten the Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain with the BE2 mate!

Craig,Duxford is one of the five museums that make up the Imperial War museum group,i've been many times and its superb.It has as you know a great USAF Museum and a wonderful Land Hall that has many great AFV's from WW2.Its a wonderfully evocative Airfield and well worth a visit.

Rob

Maybe not the BE2 alone, but throw in some SE-5's, Brisfits and a Snipe or two...

Craig

Camels will do very well, thank you. Just need to keep it from killing it's own pilots. Tough little bird to fly, I heard. -- Al

Very much so,the saying went;

'You either got a Victoria Cross,a Red Cross or a wooden cross'!:eek:

This is probably a small point but not all Germans who fought for their side in WW II were Nazis and I think (but am not totally sure) that in the Luftwaffe this was less pronounced.

Fighting for an evil cause? Yes, but all Nazis? I doubt it.

Yes i've been to them all,they are; Imperial War museum London (group head quarters),HMS Belfast, British Cruiser floating museum (first ship to open fire on Normandy beaches),Imperial War Museum North (slightly more modern view of Warfare with more interactive displays),Duxford Airfield,Cabinet War rooms,Churchill's underground headquaters from where he plotted Britains War strategy and eventual Victory.

They are all great museums and well worth a visit.I'd say IWM London is better than IWM North,but of course i'm biased;)

Rob

Very nice Rob any Dakotas in amongst your pics ?

Sorry mate i'm afraid not.
