Thanks for sharing the great photo of the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders holding the Thin Red Line at Balaclava.

Very Nice.

Best Wishes, Raymond.

Tony,

regimental color looks good, but when is the Queen's colours coming... next year I suppose, and a drummer?

..........and what of Sir Colin Campbell (mounted) may I respectfully ask, Sir ?

"There is no retreat from here, men," Campbell bellowed as he rode his steed down the line, "you must die where you stand."

And the reply of the right-hand man, was taken up by them all: "Ay, Sir Colin. And needs be, we'll do that."

They fired 2 volleys and the cavalry charge split in half and finally went into full retreat.

Some started excitedly forward for a bayonet charge, but Sir Colin called out, "93rd, 93rd, **** all that eagerness!"

Hello K&CUK.

May I politely, and with all due respect & humility, ask why is the new Piper for the TRL in Mess Dress as if he's piping the officers in for dinner at Stirling castle? All my sources have the pipers in red tunics at Balaclava as in the examples below.

In addition, may I also politely, and with all due respect & humility, ask why can’t new figures for the Crimean range be more exciting than what I've seen of them so far, as in these examples? (Although I do admit a couple of the beards need some more work done).

Cheerio

"There is no retreat from here, men. You must die where you stand." Sir Colin's aide John Scott is said to have replied, "Aye, Sir Colin. If needs be, we'll do that." Campbell formed the 93rd into a line two deep — the "thin red line". Convention dictated that the line should be four deep, but the line had to be stretched. Campbell had the regiment wait until very close quarters before the first line fired. The Russians continued to advance, and Campbell had his men wait until no more than 50 yards lay between the Highlanders and the charging Russians to fire the second volley. This broke the Russian charge. At that, some of the Highlanders started forward for a counter-charge, but Sir Colin stopped them with a cry of "93rd, **** all that eagerness!"
