Got my second LCA today, looks so good along with the first.Talking to Tony it sounds like this second wave is flying off the shelves too!.

I think K&C has come up with a smart marketing strategy in this recession. Instead of high production runs and inventory sitting on dealer shelves causing them financial hardship, I suspect they are making smaller than normal runs of only 500 or so. If they sell well (quickly) they do a second run with a different marking so not only can people get two different ones if they want, people who missed the first one as it sold out quickly, can still get the second one. I would not be surprised to see a third run if a model was extremely popular. And it's not like K&C hasn't had second issues in the past. Two that come to mind are their char bis tank and the Stug - and there probably are a few more I can't immediately think of.

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the landing craft?

Totally agree Terry this marketing strategy is a win win situation for K&C & the customers alike if theres a set you missed out on before theres a chance to get it 2nd time round with a different marking on it & K&C make more profit from the temptation of wanting two with the different markings! Is the any sets you would like to see redone with new markings?
Craig
I don't think the strategy is to reissue existing full sized releases or redo old models, just small, new issues that sell out very fast. I know the LCA, the Atlantic Wall fort and the Hurricane were fast sellers, but I don't know how well other recent releases have sold. And don't forget, this is speculation on my part from observation. I am not privy to any K&C strategy and Andy could very well say my speculation is off base.

I agree I dont think its K&C strategy to just redo old sets it seems to be the fast sellers that are receiving the face-lifts I was just wondering purely from a collectors view point what different sets people would like with different markings?
Cheers Craig
Sorry Craig - I misunderstood.
The criteria would be a fast seller. I think a grey early production Tiger would go fast with 2 different numbers. Possibly 2 Fireflys. Maybe even 2 basic SdKfz 251/1 with troops as add on sets.

The big change is the willingness of the Chinese factories to do smaller production runs. However, prices will not drop much as the factories will not produce at a loss. I do not think collectors would have seen these 2nd editions a year ago when the factories refused to do smaller production runs or would quote a prohibitive cost for a small run.I think K&C has come up with a smart marketing strategy in this recession.
