Have been working to get these photos resized and posted here. The photos were taken duirng a recent trip to Germany at the German Technical Museum in Berlin.

The unrestored Stuka was removed from a site in Russia, the museum owns two Stuka airplanes, one is on public display, the other is in in storage unfortunately. More information on the recovered aircraft can be found online. Being an avid stuka fan myself, this was a real treat!

Apologize in advance if this is considered inappropriate material to post in the King & Country thread - but my personal passion for K&C extends to seeking out and viewing the real examples of the models I collect. Or perhaps it is the other way around!

Would be more than happy to provide collectors/modellers with higher quality (5+mb) original size images - just pm me and provide your email address.

I would like to post additional photos taken at the German Tank Museum in Munster, Germany, and the German Naval Memorial/Museum (U-995, last surviving Type VIIC/41 U-boat) in Laboe, Germany, if there is enough interest generated on this thread. Plesae provide your feedback!

Hope everyone enjoys these photos of the real thing as much as I did taking them!

Mike

Here is Fw 190 "White 7" from the National Air & Space Museum (NASM) in Washingtion DC. An exceptionally well done and accurately restored example. Apart from being my favorite WW2 aircraft, am very much looking forward to K&C's own Focke Wulf release in the near future...:)

Now for the good stuff - the German Panzer Museum in Munster, Germany. Small town literally in the middle of nowhere, but home of the German Panzer School and one of the best little tank museums in the world.

These are incredible pictures. It looks as if this collection is better maintained than many others I have seen pictures of. Thanks, mate. I would love the submarine pictures.

The star of the show, not too many of these around that look this good: PzKpfw VI Tiger II Ausf. B, s.SS-Pz. Abt. 501, production turret (Henschel), Deutches Panzermuseum, Munster.

Unfortunately, the Tiger I that was on loan from the French Tank Museum in Saumur had already been sent back when I visited the museum in Munster, just a big empty corner where the Tiger had been on display!

Guess I will have to wait until I have a chance to go to Paris or London to see a Tiger I. My only consulation was the opportunity to see the Tiger II! Nice to see this after K&C's recent Tiger II release.

But Munster is anxious to get a Tiger I of their own - they are taking donations to purchase one of two Tiger I wrecks in Russia, estimated at about 500 Euros each!

Imagine buying, salvaging, and restoring your very own Tiger I! Should we start taking up a collection?:D

Not sure that it gets any better seeing your first SS Tiger II on Saturday, then your first U-boat on Sunday:)

Here is the first of a grouping of photos of U-995 in Laboe, Germany (next to Kiel), the very last of the Type VIIC U-boats today. Will do my best to post the remainder for the forum on Sunday.

Mike,
Thanks for posting, really great pics and super quality, I noticed a spectacular tail section in the backround in that an HE-219 owl nightfighter??

Ray,
Good eye, it is indeed an He 219 nightfighter - but only the fuselage. Appears to be a work in progress, but its been like that for a few years.

I had a tough time photographing the Fw 190, and am not completely satisfied with my results. The museum does not allow you to use a tripod, which means you photos are just not going to be completely in focus given the length (and width) of your subject.

The other issue I had was they have built a large structure right in front of the Fw190 to hand photographs, effectively blocking the front and top views of the aircraft - some of the best view angles of this particular fighter.

I have been attempting to contact the museum's full-time photographer to see if I can obtain permission to use a tripod (and a ladder!), but so far no luck reaching him.

Mike

Mike,

Glad you got these up as they came out much better than I could do since I don't have photoshop or a similar service and I assume that's what you used.

Did you come across any of the midget subs like the Seehund? At any rate, I would be interested in seeing more submarine and vessel photos :)

Brad - no worries, I greatly appreciate you offering to assist me post my photos this week.

Its raining all weekend here in DC, so I got so bored sitting at the house that I figured I would try to find a way to match the correct file size and dimensions that TF requires. In the end I used my Canon software to custom resize each image.

After seeing so much interest on the German midget subs here, I am kicking myself for not checking that out while I was in northern Germany, but none in the Hamburg-Kiel area that I am aware of without doing an internet search.

Can and will do on the sub photos - should have the remainder exterior/interior photos of the U-995 up by tomorrow. If you see any you really like, I can email you a high quality photo.

Mike

Beautiful stuff! Examples look immaculate (except unrestored Stuka). I share your love of the FW190, it still looks futuristic. More photos would be great. You need to understand the real thing before collecting the models! Thanks

CORRECTION in one of my previous posts - the cost to purchase an actual Tiger I tank in Russia (unrestored, not sure if price includes restoration) is 500,000 Euros!

There are apparently two Tiger wrecks currently on the market for sale. I do not have the details, or photos. Would be an interesting research project to obtain turret numbers, etc.

Thanks for the pix. Great results under difficult conditions.

It would seem to me that if you're going to buy one of these you need to have the room to store. Ergo, if you have the room to store it, you must have the funds to buy it so probably 500,000 is not outlandish. It's like the old saying: if you have to ask how much, you probably couldn't afford it.
