Rare??? (1 Viewer)

WOW I think the cheese may have slid off of this sellers cracker

That item is still available and almost 3 x MRSP

They have a lot of items that are still currently available in the WB catalogue at hefty prices. If nothing else they will always have a nice stock of WB items in their home.

Is there a banging your head smiley  :D

Yeah, this guy is off the wall but collectors who don't search for items probably wouldn't know.

I saw that seller for a while now and his prices are simply ridiculous.
Hope he didn't catch too many "collectors" yet.

Kind of funny. If you look at their feedback, you'll see that most of what sells is in the $20-$30 range.

It's rare because he says it is, nothing more. You guys shouldn't be shocked or surprised by anything you see in eBay listings anymore. From the dozens of listings that have this or that manufacturer's name in the title, just to hook searches, to the dealers who label things as "old", and therefore, justifying the high price, this goes on. And it's not a new phenomenon, caused by or restricted to eBay. Go to any flea market or antiques mall, and you'll find a percentage of the merchandise on sale that is mislabeled, or not identified more specifically than a general label ("toy soldiers", but we can see that it's Heyde's "Triumph of Germanicus", or any figure wearing a tricorne labeled "American Revolution").

If we give a seller the benefit of the doubt, we can excuse him, perhaps, as someone who sells a lot of things from many categories, and may not know too much about any of them. In that case, he probably ought to educate himself just a little. If the seller claims to be a specialist in a given area, or even expert, then we might question his motives.

In any case, it's up to us as buyers to educate ourselves, and if we find we know something the seller doesn't, or if we've caught him in a mistake or lie, that's often to our advantage in haggling. Or we can choose to avoid him.

But I've seen so much of this that it doesn't raise more than a "meh" from me.

Prost!

Everything is rare and everyone has a goldmine. BFD. Education and info is what is important to the buyer. When buying off e-bay, if you don't do the research, you get what you deserve. My gripe is all the people listing stuff under the wrong heading, deliberately. In particular, all the listings under King & Country that aren't KC. It just makes searching a longer process. -- Al

Yes, I know what you mean, very true. There's a lot of new stuff that now comes back in the pre-1970 search, that doesn't belong there, either, and in the last week and a half or so, there's been a lot of plastic coming back in the queries, a lot of Marx and Elastolin. Interesting to see, but not what I'm shopping for.

The queries were much more manageable under the previous version of the page.

But I find I'm spending less time on eBay these days, anyway. I can find more in the real world than online, right now.

Prost!

Yo Trooper, fully agree, dont do your homework or ask the one who does know and you get burnt good style. But what did Elvis bodyguards say "How can you help a man, who doesn't want to help himself". Boy some of the Stadden Buyers in the last few weeks have been burnt good style for hundreds, can you help them NO. Have put three listings on ebay telling them they are buying rubbish models to get in touch with me, do they bother NO, then go and spend hundreds again on models with all sorts missing off them.
Ah well its their money so what the hell.
Best listing I have seen so far was for a Mounted Hussar. "IN MINT CONDITION" it only had three legs lol (true) Also whats this big thing "HAND PAINTED" is there any other way you can paint a Toy soldier:rolleyes:.

This may be obvious, but for those who don't know. When I search for K&C my search is for "king country" with -ve signs for items I do not want to see like "-Del Prado" and I search in the toy soldiers group.
