Here is another opportunity to see Bob's collection in San Jose this year. He holds an annual Christmas party---this year on Sunday, December 12th at 4:00 PM. He decorates his house in a Renaissance theme for the event. If you would like to attend (I am his on-line social secretary) please send me a PM.

Also, I just spoke to him last night regarding the March 2011 West Coaster. I asked him if would mind showing his Southern California collection (about 5,000 figures) to anyone attending the show from the Forum who would like to see it. He would love to do it; his house, in West Covina, is about 30 minutes away. Please let me know if you would like to see it. We would probably do it on Saturday before the Sunday show.

I have attached three photos from this collection including the Conte Roman Galley and two photos from his Prussian room to give you a flavor of whats there.

Yes, Bob sold castings and parts as Valhalla Miniatures some years ago. Here are two photos of half his San Jose basement work area. There are thousands of castings and parts in those bins. The other half of the basement, not shown, has his kilns and molds.

What a collection !!! Thanks Mike for taking the photos. Can you ask Bob what he used for the building behind his Durbar elephants, it looks very nice. also pass along my thanks for allowing you to take and post photos of his magnificent collection.

I was at his house this afternoon and asked him how he made or where he got the Durbar backdrop. The building backdrop is actually made from a photograph of a wall out of a book which was blown up and repeated over and over again. The blown up copies are pasted onto a plywood backing with a high step in back to place the foot figures on. All the wall paper like soldier borders in some of the other photographs were made in the same manner. Bob owns a very high-end professional copier which he does amazing things with.

There is a second bathroom which is done in Russian Orthodox style or ? style. The claw foot bath tub and toilet have been done in a faux marble finish. I didn't photograph them, but here are two photos I did take. You can just make out the canopy over the toilet in one photo.

Now that I have a better look at my own photos, I take back the Russian Orthodox style guess on my part. Maybe Persian or Oriental??? I defer to others on this. I'll try to remember to ask Bob what the theme is.

I think you were right the first time, they look like Russian pictures to me. I see the Snow Maiden, Onion Domes, and a Birch Tree. The Eastern style costumes were the style before Peter the Great's reforms, and are a result of contact with Tarters, and Turks, and the Golden Horde.

Thanks, I think you are right. One's fist immpressions are usually correct. The Snow Maiden, Onon Domes, and Birch tree are Russian themes. The Oriental feel of it kind of threw me off. But in any case, a great bathroom unlike anything I have ever seen before.
