You have represented the other nationsof the WWII era!!! What would those guys think if you only made germans and americans and told those guys nothing else would sell???

Fish-
I'm all with you here except unfortunately we WWII guys are in some boat (alas not a U-boat - more like the Wilhelm Gustloff). Mostly Germans, a few Americans and Brits - nothing else. It won't sell even though never tried.

Mr Fish:

WOW - nothing like holding back  :p

You do have a very good point - Prussians can sell if someone is collecting Napoleonics - there are doing so for a reason more than - flashy uniforms - which based on what we have now - I wouldn't call them flashy - Very Nice and Colorful (like Highlanders) not flashy.

I believe like you the hobby collector wants these items for their collection because they belong to the historic story. Hopefully - Andy, will see the buyer today and even the non-collector would buy enough of these figures to make DOLLARS and SENSE. ;)

All said with the due repect and admoration of the great GOD - Andy.

Ron :D

Trouble is the vast majority of non soldier buyers and the public at large do see Waterloo as mainly Wellington of Great Britain beating (hooray!)Napoleon of France.(Sorry you Napoleon fans but thems the facts). So your average joe who might want to start a little Waterlooism is highly unlikely to say i'll start with some prussians etc!.He's going to want highlanders in squares, the wonderful Scots Greys or maybe some of Napoleons old guard looking magnificent as they march to their doom.

Even for a would be historian such as myself i want the iconic images of that battle.I want for instance the scene from the film in which the British army stand up and blow Napoleons troops back to Paris.People other than Napoleonic fans mainly want the reds versus the blues, again sad but true. And becuase Andy is running a business he has to take this into account.Hence i should imagine the forthcoming new British line infantry.

You can see this in other lines too. With all respect to Mr Gambale and a few others, most people want US/Brits/Germans and are not so bothered about Italians,Russians etc.Andy is a shrew businessman and knows his target audience and i think he has got it just right.

I am with Fishhead on this one, I'd like to have other nationalities because they were part of the Napoleonic wars history, and if we go Waterloo, then there were the Prussians. I can not begin to say if these other figures would sell or not, Andy is the bigpro here, not me. But I have noticed other lines that include these other nationalities under very extensive ranges ( Frontline, All the Queens Men, Tin Bay, Miniwelt, Little Legion, Alexander's Toy Soldiers ). I am not sure how much they sell, I have mixed different styles and even scales, but they are on the market to be found. People on this forum often mention «fillers» for K&C's gaps, is this significant?
But hey, let's be patient, Andy has mentioned other nationalities coming by the end of the year and this will definitely give my wallett a little respite ( wish it was that simple...:D ). And Waterloo still needs more British troops...

Hi Guys,

Yet another interesting poll that deserves some comments...

1. Fishead...Nothing addressed to me or K&C falls on deaf ears...I read every comment on this forum that concerns K&C and many more on other companies and topics.

However, for good or bad, the buck stops with me, I have to make the final decision on what we do...how we do it...and when we do it. I would say, in general, I agree with about 20% of the suggestions made on these forums...disagree with about 60% and don’t feel one way or the other on the remaining 20.

Listening to your customers is very important but no successful company can be run solely on a few customers/ collectors.

Remember this Forum has well over 400 members of what I would say roughly 2-3 dozen (including myself) are the “usual suspects” when it comes to posts and comments. So, let’s get a little perspective in what directions any company should go in and what exactly they should release next.

2. On the subject of future Napoleonics as I said on an earlier post (I think). This year K&C are releasing another French Cavalry Regiment and a British Infantry (not Scottish) Regiment. Towards the end of the year or early next I want to do our first non French/ British Napoleonics...and they won’t be Prussians! Boring uniforms!!!

3. Finally, to answer the age-old question “Why do manufacturers always do French and British Napoleonics?”

BECAUSE THEY SELL!

4. “Why don’t you produce all the other armies?”

BECAUSE THEY DON'T SELL!

Or at least in nowhere like the quantities of “Johnny Frog” and “Tommy Atkins”.

It sure ain’t rocket science.

And that’s the story so far...

Best wishes and...happy collecting!

Andy C.
So, I guess we need a new poll on which non French/British Napoleonics we'd like to see. My vote... Black Brunswickers - Death's Head Hussars!

Adrian

Andy has indicated that K&C won't be doing Prussians (yet?) but Black Brunswickers might be a good bet.

I saw the figure above when you posted on the old server, is it Russian made?
It is very nice whoever makes it.

Painted by the Russians - I believe the figure is made by Pegaso.

Brunswickers will be a good choice, but I really like the uniforms of the Polish Vistula Legion.

These were the cavalry troopers napoleon needed at waterloo! Look what they did to the british sqauares at Albuera.

I would like to see some nassau grenadiers also. I think britains are going to make some nassau troops soon with their return to hougomont. They held the woods on side of hougomont and I was told that they would get around to making them this time around but brits and frogs first.

Fishhead,

I thought there was a Polish presence at Waterloo. I vaguely remember reading that they where there, but I am not able to find out how many, what units they were with or where they fought. Do you have any information?

They were definitely at Leipzig where Marshal Poniatowski was killed and the Duchy of Warsaw troops are listed in the Order of Battle. The Vistula were also mentioned as fighting in the Battle of Reims, 1814, in the town of Soisson. After that, there is no mention of the Vistula.

As a side note, does anybody know a good book on the battles of Napoleon?

Ken

Amazon.com has a great listing of some recent books on Napoleon and his battles - many are very reasonbly priced.

A company called Pen and sword are good and also Osprey.

If you want an all emcompassing book and don't mind reading several hundred pages then I would recommend:

The Campaigns of Napoleon
by David G. Chandler

I agree with Combat, I read this many years ago and it is an excellent book.

Thanks!

Looks like two votes for the Chandler book, I will get it from Amazon, even though it is 1200 pages!
