Well after alot of reading and looking first hand, 1:72 was way to small!!! so I moved up to 1:48 scale WWII airplanes!!!! there are some great companies out there for this size plane, not to big, but sure bigger then the 1:72!! so I just ordered my first WWII plane, a ME 109 E class flown by Oberleutant Franz Van Werra, so excited to see my first plane, always wanted to collect some WWII planes on the side of my First Legion collection, but not have to pay 200.00 or more for a plane, so these guys work for me, plus some great 1:50 armour as well, thanks again to Terry and others for pointing me in the right direction...Sammy

Hey - don't blame me and especially don't mention my name to your wife {sm2}{sm4}{sm4}

Great scale for aircraft, Sammy. Grew up building the 1/48 scale WW1 and WW2 aircraft and collected many of the Die-cast models over the last 10 or so years, too. Love Hobby Master's aircraft, especially the pre-WW2 USN aircraft they make. Very detailed and very colorful. Some wonderful die-cast aircraft out there. -- Al

And here is my new Plane.......

FOV's modern air units are 1:48th scale. I toyed around with the idea of buying some of the blackhawks to place over my dio but they were just too small. They have 1:48th Apache's and Blackhawks- might get lucky to still find them at Target.

Sounds like we were in the same boat as I considered getting full on with the 1:48th scale FOV/21st Century planes too but accepted the fact I had too much going on and dropped from contention without a fight. {eek3}

I didn't realize how many companies make 1:48 scale diecast planes:) I'm just looking to get one here and there and most price out at around 49-60 bucks, to have a nice WWII plane collection is all I want, no major change in the works for me...Sammy

Hey UK, can you post some pics of your 1:48 plane collection, would love to see them, yea my first plane is from Carousel 1, can't wait to see it...Sammy

Don't miss out on the Armour/Franklin Mint aircraft. They are well made die-cast and they have a large selection of fighters, bombers, and some transport. -- Al

I did look at them as well Al, put most all of them on my saved list...Sammy

I used to have a boatload of the Armour aircraft. Unloaded most of them but did keep a few, including a pair of gorgeous P-38's flown by Bong and McGuire. They are beautiful in their silver finish. They are heavy and are weighted correctly so that they sit on their tricycle landing gear as they should. Also have an FW190, P-47, F4U Corsair, F6F Hellcat, SBD Dauntless, and Sinner's Me-262. I also have a 1/48 Mitsubishi Zero made by a Japanese company called Mashurin (sp?). It is an excellent die-cast model. -- Al

The FM P-38 & Me 262 were the better ones {sm3}

Recieved my ME-109E the other day and must say very pleased with my choice to collect this scale of planes as well as the detail in it as well, not real big, but large enough to see alot of good detail on it, have already ordered my next one...P-40 FLYING TIGER!!!:)...Sammy

Agree with this. The P-38's just are spectacular and the ME-262 is great as well. The version I have, flown by Rudolf Sinner, has a nice two tone green camo and sits correctly on it's tricycle landing gear. Also used to have a third P-38, Charles Macdonald's, that was silver like Bong's and McGuire's. It was a beauty but I couldn't keep everything. -- Al

So far in my small 1:48 collection I now have a SPIT/WARHAWK/ME109, I'm really enjoying this scale and the price point in this series, some really nice detail in the ones I recieved so far, looking forward to my next...hoping a Stuka...Sammy
