Franklin Mint 90mm Rev War Pewter Figures (1 Viewer)

To start the new year, I have finished 3 more of these 90mm figures, so still 3 to go.

"Rifleman" from Thompson's Pennsylvania Rifle Battalion
"Drummer" from 4th Georgia Regiment
"Militiaman" from Minot's alarm company of Concord, Massachusetts

Also I have recievd another 2 Franklin Mint Pewter figures form the same era, but appear to be larger, maybe 120mm, of a Naval Captain and a First Citzen, so I'll post images of them too when finished.

so only one to go to make the 13 Colonies

and another 2 x 120mm Frankilin Mint figures, Naval officer adn 1st Citizen.

Hi John, somehow I've missed this thread previously. I really like what you've done with these and have enjoyed looking through all the photos from start to finish. I am sure the owner of these will be thrilled with the results. :)

Hi Obee - I'm really interested in how you dealt with the issue of the "bendy" weapons. back in November - I seem to recall you were deliberating on how you might go about it. I love what you have done with the paintwork (as usual):cool: - but how about the soft pewter weapons. DID you do anything?

What I have done with the waepons that were badly bent, was to cut them off at the hand, and drill into the barrel about 15 -20 mm and then isert some stiff wireand reconnect the parts. Then with a swipe of filler, some sanding and a paint job, you can't see any problem.

Both the North & South Carolina figures have new butts on thier muskets that I have crafted from some metal, filed down to a correct shape and size and attached via a pin, as stated above.

I hope that they don't bend now, as some of the weight is supported.

The colletcor in NY who I have painted them for has just obtained the final 13th figure, the Green MOuntain Boy, so expect him on show in a month or two, and then I will show a combined image of all 13 figures, before I post them back home.

Hi Obee - thanks for the update on how you did it - that's the part I was really interested in - as I like to save broken men sometimes too. Well, you would never tell from the pictures - they look dead right! Thanks for that - I shall file the info away for possible future use - if I'm brave enough! johnnybach.:)
 
I've finally finished the last of the 13 figures produced by FRANKLIN Mint for the Bi-centenary in 1976

The last is a Green Mountain Boy

complete with rabbit and stew pot :)

Interstingly he isn't wearing his waistcoat, just trousers, shirt and coat, so it must be a warm Autumn day in 1776.

Before I collected TS I got a set of I believe 25 54mm's AWI with a wall display I believe were from Franklin Mint.This was produced in 1976.This was in the early 90's and I sold it at a yard sale for about $10.Boy I could kick myself in the butt.I didn't pay for it but traded a guy some Star Trek items from the Mint.They really use to have a lot of nice stuff but really have gone downhill.

Outstanding job. It is so good to see this set all painted up as a group. They certainly deseerved it.

Looks like a strong finish John. I think this one is actually my favorite of the bunch. You do really nice work. I am excited to see the group photo now.

After a 14 week sea voyage, maybe via Cape Horn, the clipper ship has landed Washington's Army on the shores of America, and the soldiers have finally arrived in thier new home in Tennessee, to the joy of thier new commander.

We have both been sweating thier 'safe arrival', and I recieved this nice email in thismorning from one happy collector:

Dear John:
The box arrived in todays mail none the worse for its arduous trip from Down Under.
The only post mark I read was 4/18/2011. No doubt it spent a bit of time in Customs.
You have really outdone yourself. My wife and I looked at each one and marveled at the painting and detail work. I shall go over them again and again in the next several days.
I saved Washington`s band for last. It was a sight to behold--the blue and buff colors in gloss really make them stand out and again the detail was something to behold.

This was an Imrie Risley 54mm set

Your care in boxing and shipping was evident. Each piece was perfect coming out of the container. And the big box containing everything was none the worse for wear after such a long trip.
I can`t thank you enough for your professional efforts and your care in sending these pieces and looking after their shipping tracking.
No doubt before long I`ll find another collaborative project for us to work on.

I must confess to have been keeping an eye out for the arrival of these guys - and wondering perhaps if something had gone astray from time to time. It's always a bit of a stressful time - knowing that something you have ordered is "on its way" - and the anxious wait until they arrive.

So pleased that they eventually turned up - and after 14 weeks AWOL - they were none the worse for wear. Thanks for sharing the picture - they look well worth the wait! - johnnybach
 
Excellent work, John, especially on the Franklin Mint figures! FM produced some really nice figure series over the years, in better quality than the quality of some of their other, mass-produced collectibles (eg, "Star Trek" commemorative plates), and by some noted sculptors (like Ron Hinote). You've done a really great job with your matte finish.

I love your Imrie-Risley Commander in Chief's band, too. For any other painters out there, John's work shows that, despite their age, Imrie-Risley castings are very good and provide a good canvas for your finish.

Really excellent work!
