Ebay net profits up 12% (1 Viewer)

Sounds like paypal is growing faster than ebay and will soon contribute more than half of ebay profits. And that is before the new anti-seller ebay rules have an impact. Also sounds like ebay is not doing so well in Asia - wonder who their competition is there.

What would you expect with this bad economy? More people unemployed and just jump on eBay to make meets ends...but greed-ebay still is putting more pressure on small sellers: now they are going to collect %% from shipping cost {eek3}

I wonder if the new rules and their tax on shipping costs will cut into their listings - especially for low priced items and expensive to ship items? And if they think the tax on shipping costs won't just be passed on to the buyer, they must be i****.

I just experianced the new charge ebay puts on postage. It does not show up on the origional fee, but comes later as a seperate charge.
I,m just going to raise my shipping cost and see what happens. I guess I will have to inform international buyers there shipping charges will really jump.
What are you gonna do!

I guess most regular sellers will add the ebay tax to the shipping. It doesn't make too much of a difference shipping in Canada or the US, but I have stopped allowing International bidders to bid on any of my items. The shipping cost are too high and to send it with a tracking number by air sometimes the shipping is more than the price of the item.

Gary...I did the same...seems it's the last resort...

i just spoke with an ebay rep. the commission on final value and shipping cost is 9% for auction style listings. If you are selling fixed price items, that commission is 12%.

I'm going to have to charge a handling fee for packages now. On an international package, we're talking an additional $2 to $5 my cost per package sent on top of ebays fees. I hate to do it but it is what it is. I can only hope that buyers will understand and not hammer me on the shipping charges portion of my rating.

If that happens enough times my account will be sanctioned like they threatened to do recently and have since retracted (as of today).

My solution is, after I finish thinning down my collection on eBay I will never sell another item on their site again. All future sales will be through my site.

Same for me - although once my collection is thinned down, I wouldn't have much to sell anyway. And I won't say I will never go on to sell something. Where they may miss me more is I won't be buying things on ebay - the shipping has become far too expensive and with most items on ebay being "buy it now" at retail or discount retail prices, I can buy stuff locally or get better deals direct from the manufacturer over the internet.

The only benefit of selling on ebay is exposure for hard to sell items so they get sold.
