Conte updated its website and announced a new limited edition Roman war galley today. Suppose to be cheaper then the 1st one.

This is great news . . . good to hear their also going add to this line. . .I really like my 1st edition version . . .

this could be really cool...also I understand the pricing on the figures is really good!

I'm still here my friend. No smelling salts needed!! {sm3}

Interesting. Very interesting. I guess I now have a version 2 of this ship as I gave all my rowers to a friend for a colleseum display he was going to work on. ^&confuse

Neat shot with the RWG docked in Alexandria harbor as that is the exact scene I am looking to portray with my KC Egyptians and the Conte RWG.

I like the idea of the add on sets. That way you can configure to your taste.
So it sounds like all the oars will be on the ship but just not opened to veiw the 3rd class seating arragnements like on version 1? I thought you typically would not see the rowers in the galley anyway, am I wrong?

This version reminds me of one of the greatest toys I had when I was a kid.
The REMCO Big Caesar Roman Warship? Does anyone remember that?

you can see them if you look particularly hard. You sort of have to know that they are there.

Wow! Contes website has reported that they already received enough pre-reservations on the galleys to go ahead with the project.

Bunch of lazy galley slaves malingering below deck!:D So you gonna get this bad boy to provide a wingman for Caesar?

Not sure brother. With all the newly released legionaires, there is only so much my treasuries can afford. I need this rain to break up here so I can rally the legions to the Field of Mars and go off campaigning and secure more funds!!! {sm4}

Anybody notice the crew member 2nd from the left is Tony Curtis !! Hardly surprising as we know RC is a big fan. Very good likeness.
Regards
Brett

"Field of Mars" awesome reference... brings back the times when warriors were warriors my friend! Field of Homeland Security...not quite the same ring^&grin. Never liked the change from War Department to DoD...:rolleyes2:. I know what you mean. Looking at the new legion sculpts, I too am thinking about adding to my cohort as well.

Always lurking,,, just don't always have the time to post! As an aside, what is your opinion of the War Galley you have? I haven't had the pleasure of seeing one up close but I'm tempted to jump. BTY great idea of the port scene and using the ancient Egypt line.^&cool

Well start making time or it's decimation for you!! Mouse turds....classic!! {sm4}{sm4}

Wow, do I have to catch you up. Well, for one, it is completely worth the price. I feel the rowers were really unnecceasry and may have run the price up on the first go round. Some of the lines don't fully seal as tightly as I'd like them to. If you get it, follow the instructions VERY closely and cautiously as the parts are fragile.

a month or so ago I was asked to give a presentation at the local HS Latin 3 class on Pharsalus. I brought in the legion and they scrapped. I also brought the RWG in and showed the consequences of Pompey's retreat- though not as cool as it was in Rome. {sm4} I was a bit leery bringing Cleopatra in with high schoool boys ages 16-18!! Hubba Hubba!! {sm4}

Here is a picture of the "groundwork"

that's a full size sheet of plywood mind you- it's BIIG!! Anyway, I am going to have the RWG docked and Caesar and Antony talking to Clepatra. A procession of the Pharoah (Ptolemy X11??) returning from the hunt will be there- greeted by a young noble on his chariot. Off to the side of the temple, a mummifcation ceremony will take place- not historically accurate being so close to temple (i guess) but hey, you cannot have an Egyptian dio w/o mummies!! I am still on the fence about buying any new sets as they seem to get released in "subsets" and this latest group would be the marketplace subset- not sure where I would put them. ^&confuse

Oh yeah, the big white styrofoam thing in the back is going to be the piece I use for the temple. I am going to paint and weather it up and then place the temple facade in front of it. The sphinxes will be getting some touch up work and the architects will be busy planning their next project. Oh yeah, I will have to move Omaha Beach otta the way right!! :tongue:

I think I may hit the "go" button on this. I beleive they are looking at an end of year release so that gives me plenty of time to finish my Figarti train/Moser set-up. I think I'll try to add some of the upcoming Roman sheild wall sets as well...just have to wait and see how many. Very cool dio BTY!^&cool

Thanks Saber!!

I think as the picture can convey, that is a massive piece so 2 would be hefty to contain. I have considered trying to do a dio for the port of Alexandria- that would require a lot of work though.

If you want to see another FANTASTIC egyptian diorama piece- check out Rod's at

I have never seen the first RWG in person either. That one on the photo looks great. What material is the ship and the sail made out of? Are the oars plasctic or wood?

Walt

Hey Walt-

you know, I don't really know what the boat is made of now that you mention it. I can tell you that it is very heavy though. The sail is very very sturdy too. The oars are a tad fragile- some kind of plastic I believe. They need to be somewhat pliable to fit into the oar holes.

Conte shipped a couple extra with mine- made an allowance for the "human" factor!!
