I think you will find that most of these other types of collectors confine their comments to the appropriate sections unlike the K&C afficionados who spread themselves everywhere. If you want to get them involved then widen the discussion to include other makers. Sure, K&C and the others make some great products but they only represent a small proportion of what is available out there and what they do have available has a limited shelf life. They are often refered to as the "big" companies, but if you judge a firm by the quantity of figures that are AVAILABLE then they are in the minor league compared with companies like Tradition, Little Legion, Asset and ATS who never retire their products. They don't have to as all the production is under their own personal control and not contracted out to the other side of the world. They don't have to lay out vast sums of money transporting their goods by container and laying themselves open to the whims of a foreign contractor or the vagaries of the shipping companies. Similarly they don't have to produce a set number of pieces prior to sales, the moulds can sit there until needed and then produce only what is needed at the time. It is a fact that all these companies are still selling figures that were first produced ten or fifteen years ago, no panic buying to get in before the item is sold out. ATS has the largest and most varied selection of Napoleonic figures on the market today, Little Legion has the largest range of Zulu War. So, just for once, let's hear it for the "little" companies. You have just gotta agree with these sentiments. The only time you cannot get a set from LL or ATS is if the mould is so old and worn it can no longer be used. Trophy was the same. It is only now that prices are shooting up and that is because the company has closed it's doors not because of any retirements.

Fair enough. You mentioned the "Little companies" for once. Now back to reality. Oh yes we were talking about that very very popular company ran by a great fellow....first name is "Andy"

Thanks, Dave, it was only a suggestion. I was thinking, too, of the current open thread in the General Discussion forum, about current prices, which seems to be heavy on examples/comments from K&C collectors.

Prost!

I thought that is what "OPEN" threads were for .....Open discussion about whatever.

This could be construed as a bit insulting to a lot of the collectors on this forum, couldn't it! {sm2}

I thought we were talking about posting threads not about a particular company hence it being in the general discussion area. Not everyone collects K&C and I would think that TF provides a lop sided view of the collecting community.

Sorry, I meant "open" in the sense of "active" or "not closed", as opposed to "broad" in terms of the range of the topic.

No, my original point is that, though your thread is formally a discussion across all brands and styles, the replies tend to drift towards K&C specifically. But as the other Brad and others have pointed out, there's a lot of K&C collectors, so, it's not surprising that many or most of the replies will reference K&C to support their points.

Prost!

No one denies that K&C is a very popular company or that Andy is a very nice fellow, but may I point out that you started the thread with no mention of him or his company, the content rapidly became slanted in that direction and Dave (DMnamiot) stated that it was a pity people with other agendas seemed loath to comment and wondered why. My comments were in reply to his post and briefly turned the posts away from K&C which appears to have irritated you judging by the quotation above. May I refer you back to your original post and suggest you re-read it very carefully as you seem to be in contradiction with your original comments. Trooper

Hi Guys,

I will say that while K&C is a big player in this forum they arent the only player. As a matter of fact, I would say that though this forum is primarily populated with K&C Collectors it is in fact not representative of the hobby accross the board. I am unable to give emperical data to support this but am going on the discussions I have had in the past few years with folks in the industry who would know the deal because they go to all of the shows and deal with dealers and collectors on a daily basis. Me, I am merely a longtime collector who enjoys a lot of eras. So we dont need to get insulting or mean or anything silly we all need to recognize that there are tons of guys out there who collect and probably read some of the posts here but may not because they dont like to while away the hours arguing the finner points of turret size and rivet counts. So in order to keep this sort of discussion going we might want to discuss the our collections on the micro scale or to be more clear lets discuss that one set wonder we probably all have in our collections. So I will open a new thread that is focused on this one set that is the lone representative of that company in our collections.

Dave

I think I will stick to just posting pics of dio's and commenting nice things about others as well. It makes things soooooo much easier.
