K&C's new jeep looks like a nice model. Just to let people know that these really did exist, here's a photo. This one is part of the 82nd Airborne Div. in the Ardennes campaign. These armored jeeps were not common, but a couple units in First US Army appear to have had some - most seem to show up with the 82nd ABNJeep-armored-82Abn-COMPRESSED.JPG. I believe that one (or a reproduction) exists in a museum in the Belgium area.

Thanks a lot for posting that Gary, this looks a terrific release and will go very nicely in my Battle of the Bulge collection.

Up-armored jeeps were field modifications performed by several units such as the 82nd airborne, 9th inf div. and others. They were used during the BoB, winter 1944, because tanks were to big to move through the dense forrests of the Ardennes. There is still a real one to be seen in the museum of La Gleize.
I attach a few more pictures

Great pics, that tandem bazooka rig is pretty wild.

I hope we get a summer version. It seems possible as BBA050 & BBA051 were marked as "winter versions".

Another great pic !
I can only imagine that the recoil/cyclic action of the M-2 on that jeep would've literally caused that jeep to 'rock and roll' ^&grin...

Sorry, not this year. The travel budget is being used to attend the annual "New Advances in Blood Management" conference sponsored by the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology. Basically a quick trip to Seattle partly reimbursed by the hospital :)

There are several photos of these jeeps with that armor. I wonder if this was a "kit" fabricated by First Army Ordnance or by 12th Army Group and made available to units on request. I don't recall seeing them in Third Army photos, and can't remember about Ninth Army, but during the Ardennes defense and counterattack periods divisions and even whole corps were shifted between field armies as needed.

Yep, it is as I pointed out in the La Gleize museum ( where you have the King Tiger in front of the museum) These armored jeeps were not standard issue, they all were field modifications. Up-Armored jeeps can be seen as being very different in various photographs for different units that fought in the Ardennes

There is also one in the Auburn.Indiana Victory museum

Will Andy produce a "un-white " version just like he did for the M24 Chaffee?

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for the kind and appreciative comments about this month’s “DISPATCHES”… Re the question about a “summer” version of the armoured jeep… YES! That was always part of the plan and it will be released in first half of 2012. There will be a different driver as well PLUS… a “summer” trailer with a different load of removable supplies (no cover).

Hope this info helps and thanks again. Best wishes and happy collecting!

Thanks Andy! That sounds like the one for me, I appreciate the "heads up"

It's just a great, creative Jeep variant-not to mention the trailer. This is a homerun (for me).
