ACW023-ACW37 Buford's 8th Illinois Cavalry Pre-Order! (1 Viewer)

Well, I just preordered 3, which should arrive the same tome as another preorder. Now how do I explain 6 figures arriving at once to my wife?

There is no good way. Take her out and let her buy something beforehand. Could help. I immediately delete order confirmations from the inbox, but nothing stays hidden well without a separate account.

I always answer the same thing to the same question she always has for me : "but don't you think you have enough of these little soldiers ?"

And as always here is my typical reply : "till I die, I won't have enough but I promise that I won't display them outside the library room"

"but as you know my dear, those little soldiers make me happy and give me the opportunity to think about something else than work so If I'm happy you'll be happy too"

"that's a win-win situation"

:)

Very carefully and at a distance.A phone call from another town would be my choice.^&grin{sm3}

I just pre-ordered two figures. They do look great. I want to see how they look in my custer's last stand mayley; which currently has 59 assorted king & country / w. Britains / andrea / collector's showcase / blackhawk cavalry and indians in one big swirl. At this point the son of the morning star looks like he will prevail - wish one of the big boys would make some plains indians in action. What red blooded american boy can pass on buying some redskins charging on horseflesh???? Hats off to first legion, i bet i am buying more for my christmas present this year.

{sm4} Have them delivered to a friends house and pick them up latter{eek3}^&grin.....That's what a friend I use to cycle with did when he wanted upgraded components for his road bike....(Only kidding don't do that)

When are the Cavalry figures expected to be shipped to PRE-ORDERS in the USA??

I do not collect this series but these are very tempting.Mike B :eek::wink2::eek:

I purchased my WB dismounted Union Cavalry figures for about $25 a piece inc. postage. I think they are terrific. The FL figures are $55 a piece. Based on pricing are these figures twice as good as the WB rollouts from earlier this year and last fall? It is a valid comparson and worthy of discussion. I'm not going to criticize Matt's figures...they are real nice but I'm not going to overpay for them.

I do not have the Britains dismounted cavalry, but I do have at least 200 Britains Civil War soldiers. Partly the decision depends on the collector's budget, but it also has something to do with what is available. Britains has a very wide range of ACW figures, and its pricing makes it possible for normal-budgeted collectors to put together large battle displays, which is big for ACW collectors. I still consider them my main ACW manufacturer, but I do also buy Conte, Collectors Showcase, and now First Legion. For my budget, it would be hard to afford to build a battle out of just FL figures, but the figures are worth the cost in my opinion. They are really that good. I already have lots of AWI, as well as some Napoleonics, Crusaders, and Romans from FL, and I would love to add a little WWII at some point. The WB dismounted cavalry look very nice to me, and I really like Britains Civil War figures a lot in general. If you don't want to duplicate just buy one FL piece as a stand alone and see how you like it.

After seeing the prototypes of these figures with the troopers armed with Spencer repeating carbines and Blakeslee boxes I thought: Wow! Those are cool. I have to have them. Price is secondary in my thoughts. Why did I think that? Because no manufacturer had ever depicted ACW Union Cavalry with those great carbines and cartridge boxes. How original...how cool. But FL made a decision that after being corrected that that combination was inappropriate for July 1863 during the Battle of Gettysburg, that if any person with a knowledge of the Civil War would know that Spencers and Blakeslee boxes did not appear on the battlefield until late 1863, early 1864. So they re did the troops to be armed with Sharps Carbines and conventional cartridge boxes. The problem with depicting a line to match a specific campaign which is what FL's Civil War rollouts are all about is that the prototypes had to be changed for the figurines to be historically accurate. Those prototypes were cool...wish he would have rolled them out. You don't see the Afrika Korps in North Africa circa 1942 armed with MP 44's or Germans marching to the Marne circa 1914 armed with Bergmann MP 18's so the Spencers are not appropriate but I would sure like for Matt to roll those prototypes out for purchase.
